‘I expect better reporting’: Asim Azhar calls out pages for ‘misleading the public’ with old video
Singer Asim Azhar is calling out entertainment news pages for misleading the public by sharing an old video and portraying it as recent.
The clip in question is likely of his of his ex-fiancée, actor Merub Ali. The video shows Ali singing along to ‘Dosti Aisa Naata’ during one of his earlier concerts. It recently resurfaced on multiple local entertainment accounts, with many implying it was from a recent concert.
On Tuesday, Azhar took to his Instagram stories to set the record straight, clarifying that the video is old and expressing disappointment over what he described as “misleading” reporting by popular pages.
“With all due respect, I want to address a few entertainment pages that have been posting an old video, misleading the public. I really expect better reporting in the name of journalism,” he wrote.
“You are followed by millions in total — surely you have a responsibility to project correct information and context. Please, do not spread old videos without context. Do some research first. Aur agar jaan booch ke hi kiya hai to get likes/reach tou phir Allah hi haafiz hai (And if you have done this on purpose to get reach and likes, then God save us),” he added.
Ending the note with a tongue-in-cheek remark, he wrote, “It’s not like I haven’t been giving enough content anyway, what was the point of this?”
The singer, who recently announced his first independent album Asim Ali, has found himself at the centre of increased online speculation about his personal life in recent months, something he has largely chosen to avoid commenting on.
With this clarification, however, Azhar seems keen to draw a line between his music and the noise surrounding his personal life.
