Ushna Shah offers condolences over the death of US political commentator Charlie Kirk

He was shot while speaking to students at a university in Utah.
11 Sep, 2025

Actor Ushna Shah expressed grief over the death of American right-wing political commentator Charlie Kirk, who was shot while addressing students at a university campus in the US state of Utah on Wednesday. Kirk, 31, is survived by his wife and two children.

Shah posted a story on Instagram saying she “disagreed with many of [Kirk’s] views, especially on [Palestine],” which she called the “most fundamental cause of our time”. However, she said, “watching a man in his early thirties, a husband, a son, a father of two, be shot in cold blood is heartbreaking”.

Sending prayers to Kirk’s family, Shah said, “The children and families of [Palestine] will always remain my priority to defend, yet today I pause in grief at this awful murder.”

She said, “A loss of life this cruel and senseless is devastating, and it is in acknowledging all human suffering that we hold on to our own humanity.”

Kirk was a polarising figure in the US political landscape. A staunch ally of President Donald Trump, his views on abortion, immigration and gun violence often sparked backlash. Kirk often used events, like the one he was attending in Utah, to debate audience members. He was answering a question on shootings in the US when he was fired upon by a distant assailant. A manhunt for the shooter is ongoing.

President Trump, who had earlier credited Kirk for mobilising young voters during the 2024 presidential election, has ordered US flags be flown at half mast to mourn his death. Former presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama also sent prayers to Kirk’s wife and children and decried political violence.

So she was the first Pakistani to grab the headlines, even though she had no connection with Kirk, never met the dude, never even visited the US, but she is grief stricken by his demise!??

Hi, It is good to see Ushna Shah writing a condolence message for Charlie Kirk. But, I would like to say that did she write anything happening here in the country related to human rights, political injustices and freedom of speech? Regards

Obviously you’re trying to become relevant while sitting a whole world away, not aware of what is transpiring in United States. Yes any loss of life is regretful no matter the reason. Some times it’s better to sit out, you don’t have a dog in this situation. I live here in the United States and have experienced what this guy stood for .I would suggest that you should look into what he stood for and remember when you live by the sword you die by the sword. Find a better cause to follow up on, this was a poor example of being relative and step into limelight

Usha, Do you know how many men within Pakistan get killed every day?? How many women are brutalized with acid attacks, killed or maimed by their husbands in Pakistan every day? How many poor young maides are assaulted by their employers in Pakistan every day? How many young gets are raped and killed by the very people they trusted, in this country, every day?? Where were you when all of this was happening in your own back yard? But you are quick to jump to grab headline by offering condolences for a White Boy, in Utah, a right-winger, anti-Muslim, anti-Palestinian hate mongering Trump supporter?? What were you thinking, I wonder??

But ofcourse Liberal grace going out on a limb to whitewash and santify the loss of a villain. Someone who celebrated the genocide of Palestine, and its people. But urban liberalism can't seem to differentiate one from the other, despite exposure and education.

@Mohsin Raza Khan You don't have to know somebody personally to empathize with them being assassinated/murdered in cold blood. It's just humanity. Even if you disagree with their views or choices.

At least someone has the decency to mourn innocent life, no matter how polarizing the person. We can’t expect others to share or even care about the suffering of our brethren in Palestine and Kashmir, if we don’t acknowledge their pain.

Violence is never the answer. Perhaps Ms. Shah should have known about Mr. Kirk. He did mobilize right wing youth to help Trump win, which in itself is not a bad thing, but his views on immigration, Islam, race, trans, guns, etc. are despicable to say the least. He also argued that ‘we should accept a certain number of deaths to keep the second amendment (right to bear arms) alive’. He didn’t expect he would become a victim of it too. It’s best to keep your sympathetic views of such a bigoted racist person to oneself, instead of announcing it to world.

Nice of her to be so considerate, statistically speaking that is just ONE (1) more loss of life added to 70,000+ and climbing, lives lost in Palestine and of course those who were murdered in Doha a couple of days back. You may also take into consideration approximately 10 - 14,000 people who are killed every year, here in USA

Charlie Kirk, a truly great and loving family man with two beautiful kids! I am deeply saddened to know about the heinous attack by the savage. Here’s what I’ve learned from this beautiful soul: Love and care for your loved ones, stand up against evil, and always think for yourself. It’s okay to disagree, but always engage in respectful dialogues. As he said, the end of a talk leads to violence, so respect is key to understanding, not conflict. Be the best person you can be, be a responsible man in your life, cherish life, not death, but most importantly, follow Christ! Charlie fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. May his memory continue to inspire and be a blessing to us all! May the Lord be with his amazing family, friends, and loved ones.

As a Pakistani American, I can easily tell she has no idea who he was. Sure I disagree with violence to silence dissent but sometimes it's ok to be silent. Wonder if she felt bad for those killed by Israel in Doha recently? These people are not your friends... wake up

Either you support violence and silencing dissent, opposition and critics. Or you don't. It really is that simple. it is clear many people think he deserved it and therefore violence/murder is ok. Good to know. Just remember to apply the same standard when it's the it's the reverse case. I dont like Ushna or her acting. But she said nothing wrong. She has freedom of speech like others.
