Farshi shalwar showdown: Celebrities who wore the regal silhouette on Eid
Did you even celebrate Eid if you didn’t wear a farshi shalwar? The trend recently took Pakistani fashion by storm and was soon spotted on all our favourite celebrities, and Eid was no exception, of course.
Rooted in royal Mughal fashion, the farshi shalwar has always been a symbol of grace and elegance. The flowy fabric gathers dramatically on the ankle, much looser than other leg openings. Sadaf Kanwal reignited the trend with her Rosa ’23 collection under her eponymous label. The line was minimal, yes. But that dramatically flared shalwar? Anything but.
When Eidul Fitr, Pakistan’s biggest fashion event, arrived, everyone slipped into their farshi shalwars and went straight to Instagram — stars included!
It only made sense to list some of our favourite celebrity farshi shalwar looks, and Eidul Adha is right around the corner, so if nothing, this will serve as some inspiration!
Urwa Hocane

First up, Urwa Hocane, who wore this pastel green outfit from Danyah Qazi (we couldn’t find a website, but you can place an order on their Instagram page). The shirt is adorned with minimal bronze work, and the dupatta fades from green to pastel pink, with floral work on the edges. The shalwar? Farshi, of course! Hocane opted to wear a plain farshi shalwar, allowing the shirt and dupatta to be the highlights of the outfit. Granted, this was her chaand raat look, but hey, that’s when the Eid fashion extravaganza begins.
Sarah Khan

Sarah Khan wore an embroidered butter-yellow ensemble from her own brand, Alyana. The shirt was covered in dainty embroidery in varying shades of pink and orange, and the flowy organza dupatta had floral lace detailing. A matching yellow farshi shalwar completed the look, with delicate lace on the edges.
Ushna Shah

Ushna Shah looked stunning in this monochromatic pink number from Haseens. The dupatta and kurta were covered in bead and thread work of varying shades of pink and white, with a broad border finishing the top. Shah’s shalwar was quite dramatic — which we love — and was definitely farshi as it trailed on the floor underneath her adorable pink and green khusas.
Ramsha Khan

Ramsha Khan looked like spring incarnate in a beautiful yellow kurta and dupatta and mint green farshi shalwar from Truba. Her entire outfit was covered in bunches of flowers, embroidered with green, white and different shades of pink. Ramsha said, ‘No, thank you’ to the minimalist vibe, and we love that.
Sadia Khan

Sadia Khan kept it chic in this Hussain Rehar outfit, embellished with dainty silver work on the neckline, hems and scattered across her farshi shalwar.
Sehar Khan

Sehar Khan stunned in a creamy peach outfit by Mohsin Naveed Ranjha. According to the designer’s website, the kurta was embroidered with floral scrollwork along the neckline and sleeves, finished with delicate pearls and trims. The farshi shalwar, adorned with embroidered borders, complements the look.
Yumna Zaidi

Yumna Zaidi was all-out glamour for Eid, and we love to see it! The actor looked incredible in a bright red number by Truba. The hem of her shirt and the edges of her sleeves were decorated with a thick golden border. Matching dainty borders adorned her neckline and the hems of her farshi shalwar. The star of the show was the dupatta, completely covered in golden work.
