‘Israel resumes its genocide’: Social media erupts after ceasefire shattered with deadly airstrikes in Gaza
Israel launched on Tuesday a wave of brutal airstrikes across Gaza, killing over 200 Palestinians, including women and children. The bombardment, described by many as one of the most vicious in recent days, came despite a ceasefire agreement that was supposed to bring some semblance of relief to Palestinians ravaged by over a year of Israeli assault.
While Israel’s supporters rushed to justify its renewed attacks by claiming Hamas refused to release hostages, many pointed out that Israel failed to uphold its end of the agreement.
According to the proposed terms, the second phase of the deal involved Israel agreeing to a permanent ceasefire, after which Hamas would release the remaining living male hostages — including soldiers and civilians — in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
The final stage would have involved the return of the remains of deceased hostages. But instead of progressing to stage two of the deal, Israel opted to resume the bombardment.
As images of flattened buildings, and killed and injured children flood social media once again, netizens are lashing out at Israel on X. Users are voicing outrage not just at its renewed assault, but also at the complicity of Western powers.
“This is what the media manufacturing consent for genocide looks like,” one user wrote, calling out how headlines still tiptoe around Israel’s role as the aggressor. “‘Israel continues GENOCIDE in Gaza with massive bombardment after repeated violations of ceasefire’—that’s your headline.”

“My timeline is flooded — again — with horrific images of Palestinian children being slaughtered by Israel, all while the media gaslights us with ‘Israel targets Hamas amid fragile ceasefire’ headlines,” the user added. “Israel is bombing all across Gaza, resuming its genocide of Palestinians, and CNN is still calling it a ‘fragile ceasefire’.”

“Israel broke the ceasefire agreement, that should be your headline,” another added.

“Israel can’t do a damn thing that Western media would view as actually breaking the ceasefire deal,” a tweet read.

American rapper Macklemore also reacted to the latest attacks, urging everyone to imagine, even for two minutes, if the children killed were theirs.
One user wrote, “Israel resumes its genocide after consistently violating the ceasefire even in its first phase.”

Many lashed out at US President Donald Trump, who had taken credit for brokering the ceasefire deal. Many called out Trump for enabling Israeli aggression while simultaneously stoking tensions elsewhere.

“Israel is humiliating Trump. They’re refusing to abide by the ceasefire deal he publicly bragged about… and now he’s bombing Yemen and taking the US closer to war with Iran,” a user posted. “Weak and pathetic.”
Users didn’t mince words about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu either. “There was a ceasefire. Hamas was complying. Israel refused to move to Phase 2 and is now bombing Gaza again. Anyone who stands with Netanyahu is evil.”

Across X, the word “genocide” was used again and again — accompanied by gut-wrenching photos of children pulled from the rubble, bleeding mothers clutching lifeless babies, and a city in ruins.

“For Israel, a ceasefire means ‘you cease, we fire’,” wrote one user, who called for the expulsion of Israel from the United Nations.

Others questioned why the global community remains largely silent.
A user wrote: “I don’t even know what to say — the images are brutal, mostly children, from what I have seen. Over 250 Palestinians in Gaza were killed tonight while they were sleeping. Israel did this in an hour after announcing they had ended the ceasefire without any provocation.”

Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that the strikes were ordered after “Hamas’s repeated refusal to release our hostages, as well as its rejection of all of the proposals it has received from US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and from the mediators.”
An Israeli official told AFP that the operation “will continue as long as necessary, and will expand beyond air strikes.”
In a statement, Hamas said, “Netanyahu and his extremist government have decided to overturn the ceasefire agreement, exposing the prisoners in Gaza to an unknown fate.”
Gaza’s civil defence agency has said the death toll from the Israeli campaign has risen to more than 220 people, including children, AFP reports.
