People are unsatisfied with the UN Security Council resolution for a Ramazan ceasefire in Gaza

Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda highlighted that the ceasefire is not lasting nor does it call for the return of Palestinian hostages.

The UN Security Council finally passed a resolution on Monday, demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during Ramazan, an unconditional release of prisoners, and urgent expansion of aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave.

The move garnered mixed reactions from supporters of Palestine on social media, with most people criticising it for being too little too late.

Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda took to Instagram to voice her “disappointment” regarding the resolution because “it is demanding an immediate ceasefire for two weeks”. Owda was referring to how the ceasefire is only going to last for the month of Ramazan, of which there are two weeks left.

She highlighted that the resolution did not discuss the release of the “7,000 Gazans taken by Israel since the beginning of the genocide”, a permanent ceasefire, or the return of Palestinians’ homes in Northern Gaza.

Owda continued that the UN only passed the resolution to bring back Israeli hostages. “This is a very disappointing resolution and that is why it was passed,” the journalist said.

Her video was flooded with netizens supporting her and expressing their dismay at the resolution.

Meanwhile, Palestinian journalist Motaz Azaiza posted a picture of him standing in front of the White House and urged everyone to “keep calling for a ceasefire to stop the most documented genocide and ethnic cleanses”.

Lawyer and humanitarian Rosy Pirani said that Israel was “bombing Rafah” hours after the passing of the resolution.

“1.6 million Palestinians are displaced there. Half of them are children. Once again, Israel proves it doesn’t give a damn about international law or institutions,” she wrote, calling for all aid to Israel to be halted.

Some social media users said that it was “enjoyable to see all the Zionists crying” after the US abstained from voting, after vetoing several past resolutions.

However, others were quick to highlight that this resolution was “watered down” and did not mention a permanent ceasefire.

An X (formerly Twitter) user highlighted that the US was already “working hard to undermine the UN ceasefire resolution that just passed, with them abstaining”.

Others highlighted the US’ “trickery” regarding the situation, after it called the ceasefire ‘imperative’ but demanded only the return of Israeli hostages, not Palestinians and also abstained from voting.

Meanwhile, in Palestine troops and tanks have encircled Gaza City’s Al-Shifa Hospital, the territory’s biggest, for a week and more recently moved on to the Al-Amal Hospital in the main southern city of Khan Yunis.

While Israel has labelled its operations “precise” and said it has taken care to avoid harm to civilians, aid agencies have voiced alarm about civilians caught up in the fighting.

UN chief Antonio Guterres, on a crisis visit to the Middle East, has pleaded for an end to the “non-stop nightmare” for the 2.4 million people trapped in Gaza’s worst-ever crisis.

Liberty and democracy become unholy when their hands are dyed red with innocent blood. Mahatma Gandhi UN should stop being diplomatic, at this juncture and condemn this war completely, otherwise generations to come will find their blood on their sleeves.

The world is black and white now. All the blood thirsty powers of the west have been exposed badly. It’s a “night is right” world now.

The US' move to abstain from voting in favor or against the UNSC resolution aimed at suspending Israeli aggression was a ploy of the Biden administration to win over voters at home as well as keep Israel also engaged. It killed two birds at one stone. Now it has something with which it can appeal to voters along with engaging Israel in the future on the ground that US was still its well-wisher as it did not vote in favor of resolution which could give a sigh of relief to Hamas.

No right or wrong in this "civilized world". Like it has been through out history, LAW OF THE JUNGLE. Atleast western hyporicy has been compeletly exposed. They shouldn't be telling others about human rights or democracy anymore.

UN is not what they stand for, UN is playing in the hands of five super powers China-Russia-UK-USA-France. I’m very frustrated with UN performance in the last 50 years.

Either you want ceasefire or you dont. Take what you can get and present a counter offer of permanent ceasefire and give them back their hostages. Netanyahoo is not going to release pre 7. Oct 7000 Palestinian detainees. He like Hamas on War, hate and blood. There is a rare opportunity to create peace. Be grateful and cease it. I wrote a longer comment on this but of course dawn with their usual censorship propaganda decided to not publish it. Peace can only come from the two people. But the outside world as put Israel under such presthat even their own people have turned against their government. So don't let this opportunity pass you by. Permanent cease fire now.
