As the month of Ramazan begins, so does a plethora of new entertainment on the silver screen. Television channels have announced several new shows, encompassing numerous genres — comedies to romances to the usual, typical dramas.

We compiled a list of all the new TV shows coming to you this Ramazan!

Dil Pe Dastak

This HUM TV comedy is written by Hassan Imam and directed by Ali Masud Saeed. It features Khaqan Shahnawaz and Aena Khan in the lead roles and is produced by Momina Duraid Productions.

The show revolves around Shahnawaz and Aena’s love story and depicts the everyday antics of a Pakistani family. It also stars designer Parishae Adnan in her first acting role.

Dil Pe Dastak will air every day at 7pm, starting from the first of Ramazan (March 12).

Very Filmy

Now this is one we’re very excited for! Another comedy from HUM TV, produced by Momina Duraid, directed by Ali Hassan and writer by Muhammad Ahmed.

According to HUM TV’s blog, the romcom extravaganza “promises to be a delightful journey for all fans of romantic comedies”.

Very Filmy’s stellar cast features Bushra Ansari, Mira Sethi, Dananeer Mobeen, Ameer Gilani, Ali Safina, Ukhano and many others.

The show will air every night at 9pm, starting from March 12.

Tere Mere Sapnay

This romcom from GEO Entertainment brings forth confusion and chaos as two lovebirds try to be together — much to the chagrin of their extended family members (talk about brown people problems). According to 7th Sky Entertainment, the production company behind the show, “From the moment he entered her life, it became anything but ordinary, as surprises emerged”.

The show is written by Samra Bukhari and directed by Ali Faizan. It stars Shahzad Sheikh, Sabeena Farooq, Noor Hassan, Hina Bayat, Saqib Sumeer, Mani, Hira Soomro and Madiha Rizvi.

Tere Mere Sapnay starts on March 12 and will air daily at 9pm.

Ishqaway

GEO Entertainment’s Isqaway follows a “mix-up of identities that leads to comical situations and a budding romance”. It also deals with a fashion designer’s quest for a perfect ending as she faces opposition from within her own family.

The show is produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi, written by Amar Khan and directed by Zahid Mehmood. The cast includes Aagha Ali, Nazish Jahangir, Maria Wasti, Behroz Sabzwari, Mahmood Aslam, Maryam Noor, Naveed Raza, Ayesha Gul, and Saleem Mairaj.

Ishqaway will air daily at 7:15pm, from March 12.

Umm-e-Ayesha

Actor Nimra Khan is set to star as the hijab-wearing lead in Umme Ayesha, a new Geo Entertainment show directed by Saleem Ghanchi and produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi.

In an exclusive comment to Images, Nimra detailed that the show focuses on the struggles of a woman who wears the hijab, including issues such as “losing out on jobs because of her attire” and facing discrimination during the rishta process.

The show also follows her clashing with the ‘modern’ and ‘worldly’ male lead, played by Omer Shahzad (who she’s probably going to fall in love with — this is, after all, a Pakistani drama).

Umme Ayesha will air daily at 6pm on Geo Entertainment, from March 12.

Rafta Rafta

Rafta Rafta marks Saheefa Jabbar Khattak’s return to television after a four-year break. The Green TV show also stars Zaviyar Nauman Ejaz and Hina Dilpazeer.

In an exclusive comment to Images, Jabbar said the six-to-eight-episode comedy series will be directed by Khalik Khan and written by Hassan Imam.

The actor said that Dilpazeer will be playing her mother in the “fun and cute series”. She maintained that she was “grateful” that there was “no crying or slapping” in the show — stereotypical elements present in a majority of Pakistani dramas.

According to Green TV’s official Instagram, the romcom shows the “chaotic world of a couple whose relationship swings between passion and frustration faster than you can say,‘I love you…I hate you!’”.

Rafta Rafta kicks off on March 16, and will air every Saturday and Sunday at 8pm.

Nasihat

According to Green TV’s Instagram, “Nasihat, which means advice or counsel, is indeed a series of lessons to remind us of important aspects of life that we might overlook in our day-to-day activities. It’s always beneficial to reflect on such wisdom to lead a more fulfilling life”.

The trailer highlights that the drama will follow the lives of different characters, struggling with their flaws, trying to make it in the world.

The show stars Faysal Quraishi, Sami Khan, Samiya Mumtaz, Hina Dilpazeer and others.

The show will begin airing on March 16, every Saturday and Sunday at 7pm.

Tum bhut Yaad ayo gay! Is it dancing like Nag-in or discussing Ghalib with religious pundits. He was the king of Ramadan shows. Amir Liaquat Hussain his other name is Ramadan show man.

No thanks. I have given up on Pakistani dramas. Same old stories centured around Shaadi, in-laws, love and then animosity. Instead I have started watching true crime and historical documentaries again and contemplating signing up for a streaming service. Not sure. That said Green Entertainment unlike national channels is churning out new types of shoes so I do recommend watching their shows. Something for everybody.

If you must watch Pakistani drama shows, then only watch the stuff from Green Entertainment. There is a reason it's not on nationwide channels. But only online. Better and nuanced content.
