Going loco for local: Sesky’s Chick Magnet is a great scent for the summer

We totally mixed up who it's advertised towards, but hey, it's great for both men and women!

I have been using the Sesky ‘Chick Magnet’ perfume for a week now, after I was forced by the Images editor to do so and write a review.

While we were arguing over whether I should be the one to do it, she opened the bottle and almost shoved the cap up my nose to give me a whiff, at which point my subdued resistance died an inevitable death. “It’s actually good,” I told her. “Ok, I’ll do it.”

One of the things I like about it is the woody, citrusy aroma, which is a tad bit nostalgic, taking me back to my high school days when I used to wear Calvin Klein’s One. I’m not sure if it’s a replica of CK’s One (I haven’t used it or smelt it in years now) but there is certainly a similarity, which I see as a positive. It’s definitely a fragrance for the summer, particularly for our part of the world where there’s hardly any respite from the sweltering heat.

One of the cons, in my view, is that the scent doesn’t stick with you for long hours. So, if I apply it early in the morning before I head to work, by lunchtime, I can barely — if at all — smell it on me. But then, when I look at the price tag, it makes sense. It’s unfair to compare the longevity with international brands that are priced five to 10 times higher. At Rs2,800 for a 100ml bottle, Sesky’s Chick Magnet is worth it, and if you can carry it in your bag to work (which I do), a couple of sprays during your lunch break will get you through the day.

I’d rate it a 3.5 out of 5, rounded up to four.

Note from the editor: I gave the product to Omer to review before checking Sesky’s website where Chick Magnet is advertised as a perfume for women. It claims to be an impression of Bombshell by Victoria’s Secret, which none of us got at all. I would say it’s more of a unisex perfume, especially due to the name, which we were sure was advertised towards men, which is why Omer reviewed it.
