Going loco for local: Alay’s stylish tracksuit is as functional as it is fashionable
When I got my hands on locally manufactured exercise wear, I had my doubts.
This is likely because of years of growing up as an underseas Pakistani on the constant lookout for overseas goods. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Alay Highlander trousers and jacket are actually up to snuff.
Let’s start with the pants. The first thing you’ll notice is how comfortable they are. They’re made from a soft, stretchy fabric that moves with you, whether you’re jogging, lifting weights, or just running errands. And speaking of running, these pants are perfect for it. The fitted design keeps them from getting in your way, and the breathable material wicks away sweat to keep you feeling cool and dry.
But these pants aren’t just practical — they’re also stylish. The pants, which zip up at the ankles, add just the right amount of flair, and the waistband is comfortable. Plus, they’re versatile enough to wear outside of the gym. Pair them with a shirt and sneakers, and you’re good to go.
Now let’s talk about the jacket. It’s lightweight, so it won’t weigh you down during your workouts, but it still provides warmth on chilly days (the weather in Karachi was cooler when I got these). Also, the pockets are just the right size for your phone and keys.
The jacket retails for Rs2,900 and the pants for Rs2,600 but both are on sale right now on the Alay website.
However, this is not to say all is dandy.
Two issues I have encountered are: 1) the high neck in the jacket sort of chafes my neck with movement and 2) the zippers could be better in quality in both the pants and the jacket.
So I’m deducting half a star each for these demerits.
But overall, I’m liking this workout gear from Alay. It’s comfortable, stylish, and functional to have you looking and feeling your best. What more could one want?
Would recommend.
