Going loco for local: Snack your heart out with Dipitt’s Jalapeño Salsa

Who needs Doritos Salsa when you have this Godsend?

Back in the day, Doritos Salsa used to be the ultimate treat in my household. On the rare occurrence that it was available at our local grocery store, it only lasted for a grand total of 10 minutes before it was gobbled up by any hungry soul passing by. Today, I wouldn’t even look at the Doritos Salsa at the grocery store for fear that I’ll be tempted to buy it at an astronomical price. So when I found out Dipitt is making a similar product for a quarter of the price, I was ecstatic.

Dipitt’s Jalapeño Salsa is a game-changer. It’s priced at Rs555 and can be purchased via their website or at any grocery store. I got mine from Foodpanda for Rs549.

There’s also a regular salsa available but I chose the jalapeño one because I like spice. To be quite honest, I feel like the salsa could have been spicier. Or maybe there’s room for a third, even spicier option on their salsa roster.

Though the Jalapeño Salsa is milder than I would have liked, it’s quite good. It’s got all the good bits — chunky tomato and onion pieces in the salsa, giving you that authentic taste. It also has flavour — something that’s often missing from ‘salsas’ you get in Pakistan. Why they assume South Americans don’t eat spicy food is beyond me.

There’s a sizeable quantity in their 300g jar and as always, their packaging is eye-catching. I’m a big fan of Dipitt in general and I’m glad they’re expanding their repertoire beyond sauces (though those are delicious too). Seeing Pakistani brands experiment and branch out makes my heart happy because we deserve fun sauces and food products too!

Dipitt’s Jalapeño Salsa is good enough to banish any thought of Doritos Salsa from your mind. Four and a half stars rounded off to five with half a point deducted for lack of spice.
