The more we hear about Jemima Khan’s What’s Love Got to Do with It?, the more excited we are to watch the film. The golden question is — is the movie slated for a theatre release in Pakistan? The answer is yes — fingers crossed.
Images reached out to several cinema houses for you to mark your calendar for ticket bookings. Atrium Cinemas has confirmed that the film is scheduled for a release, albeit a delayed one, on March 3. Nueplex Cinemas, The Arena and Cue Cinemas are yet to receive an update on the movie’s screening in Pakistan. Universal Cinemas, Lahore said it will not release at their cinema house.
What’s Love Got to Do with It? is scheduled to release in Australia on January 26 and in UK cinemas on January 27. The cross-cultural British rom-com premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September and at the Rome Film Festival in October, where it bagged the Best Comedy award.
Khan’s “love letter” to Pakistan, directed by Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and written and co-produced by Khan, stars Sajal Aly, Lily James and Shahzad Latif. The film tells the story of documentary-maker and dating app addict Zoe (James) for whom swiping right has never been that great. She has constantly been met with Mr Wrongs, much to her mother Cath’s dismay.
We also meet Zoe’s childhood friend and neighbour Kaz (Latif), who is letting his parents arrange his marriage and find him a Pakistani bride. But as Zoe films Kaz’s journey from London to Lahore to marry a complete stranger chosen by his parents (Aly), she wonders if she might have something to learn from arranged marriage that can help her find love on her own.
The movie’s cast also includes Emma Thompson, Shabana Azmi, Asim Chaudhry, Mim Shaikh, Jeff Mirza, Iman Boujelouah, Mariam Haque and Sidhu Vee.
