Bollywood’s Athiya Shetty and Indian cricketer KL Rahul have tied the knot after initially denying wedding rumours. Their dreamy wedding affair was like no other Bollywood wedding as both the bride and groom chose the minimal route.

In a collaborative Instagram post on Monday, Shetty and Rahul shared photos from their day-time wedding. “Today, with our most loved ones, we got married in the home that’s given us immense joy and serenity. With a heart full of gratitude and love, we seek your blessings on this journey of togetherness.”

What caught our attention was that despite the rumours of a traditional South Indian wedding, the bride and groom ditched the traditional outfits and decor for a minimal and modern event.

Here are some cues to take from their intimate wedding:

The minute someone says traditional desi wedding, the first thing that pops into our minds is a bride in a traditional red lehenga while the groom opts for massive headgear and a gold-beige combination for his sherwani. But Shetty and Rahul exceeded our expectations with their outfits.

Shetty wore a pale pink Anamika Khanna piece. We expected yet another Sabyasachi bride but Shetty’s choice blew us away. The handmade silk lehenga with intricate chikankari jaali and zardozi work of the same colour palette was complemented by Shetty’s choice of jewellery and makeup. According to Pinkvilla, the outfit took 10,000 hours to be curated. As for her jewellery, she chose a statement polki set that consisted of a heavy necklace with matching earrings and a small maang-teeka.

The groom wore an ivory sherwani by the same designer. It featured similar ivory floral embroidery as on the bride’s lehenga and blouse. He wore an embroidered shawl around his neck complemented by two-tiered beaded necklaces, one emerald green and the other brown.

Minimalistic decor

It was a shaadi wala ghar did not look like a shaadi wala ghar. Shetty’s father, Suniel Shetty’s khandala farmhouse seemed to have been left as is for the event, with the only difference being the mandak set up that had a mix of white flowers, some strands of white roses while the rest jasmine, hanging from the ceiling.

The same flowers were draped around the balcony, as seen in the photos shared by Athiya on Instagram. Other details of the decor have yet to be revealed.

No makeup makeup

It’s time to ditch the bold red lips and smokey eyes, because this bride has set a new standard. Shetty chose a monotone makeup look and sleek hairdo with her pale pink wedding dress that gave us hope for minimalist brides.

Perhaps the bride too took her cue from Alia Bhatt who made waves last year for keeping it minimal on her big day. As seen in the photos, Shetty opted for a dewy skin finish with a fresh pink cheek colour, slight bronze eyeshadow, smoked out brown eyeliner and a glossy pink lip. Maybe this is your sign to also consider a no makeup look this wedding season if you’re a bride wanting to stand out.

The next Bollywood couple in line to get married are Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani who are reported to be having a grand Rajasthani wedding at the Jaisalmer Palace Hotel. Their festivities are rumoured to begin from February 4 and 5 .

According to ETimes, the main event will be held the next day on February 6, in a grand affair that will be guarded by a heavy contingent of security.
