BTS’ Jin and Coldplay’s ‘The Astronaut’ is an ode to fans ahead of his military duty
A year after ‘My Universe,’ K-pop supergroup BTS has collaborated with Coldplay once again but this time, it’s Jin’s solo titled ‘The Astronaut’.
The song released on Friday and opens to Jin sitting in a field having a look at a burning spaceship while talking about an unending history.
The song is about two people who weren’t meant to be together but are now one and inseparable. The song has been co-written by the British band and the music video also features Moses, the son of Chris Martin, the band’s lead vocalist.
According to NME, the song is offered as a present to the BTS ARMY, the K-pop band’s fans around the world. ‘The Astronaut’ also serves to illuminate the kinship between Jin and Coldplay and the way they think about the things and people important to them.
As everyone knows, BTS often leave easter eggs in their music videos and just like their other music videos, ‘The Astronaut’ also references ‘My Universe’ and Jin’s solo song ‘Moon’ from album Map of the Soul: 7. Scenes from the music video show Jin as an astronaut and people as his fans for whom he stays back as the spaceship floats in the sky, ready to depart for the next chapter.
The music video has racked up 4.2 million views within four hours of its release.
The music video comes days after the seven-member band’s agency confirmed that they will continue with their scheduled military enlistment, starting with Jin, the eldest member. The other younger band members also plan to serve their compulsory service.
Formed in 2013, BTS is one of the biggest bands in the world. The K-pop group shot to fame globally for hits like ‘Mic Drop’, ‘Butter’, ‘Permission to Dance’, ‘Idol’ and more. The group consists of seven members — RM, J-hope, V, Jungkook, Suga, Jin and Jimin.
