Two new Bollywood releases, Akshay Kumar starrer Ram Setu and Sidharth Malhotra and Ajay Devgn’s Thank God hit theatres on Diwali but they’ve been faced with tough competition overseas in the form of Pakistani release The Legend of Maula Jatt. The film, starring Fawad Khan, Humaima Mallick, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan and others, released two weeks ago but it’s still beating the two Indian films at the US and UK box offices with $56,586 and $46,825 earned respectively.

According to Bollywood Hungama, The Legend of Maula Jatt drew a staggering $46,825 from 56 screens in the UK on its 13th day running. At the same time, both Bollywood films that hit theatres on Wednesday. Thank God collected $19,472 from 83 screens and Ram Setu collected $16,595 from 95 screens.

The Legend of Maula Jatt collected $56,586 from 90 screens in the US while Ram Setu collected $48,330 from 354 screens and Thank God collected $40,358 from 228 screens in North America.

Despite the higher screen counts for the Bollywood films, the publication said the films failed to surpass the collection of the Pakistani blockbuster in both markets.

On Monday, the executive producer of The Legend of Maula Jatt, Ammara Hikmat, shared that the film made Rs1 billion worldwide within 10 days of its release. It has also become the highest grossing Punjabi language film in the UK.

The Legend of Maula Jatt released across cinemas worldwide on October 13. The film is a reboot of the 1979 cult classic Maula Jatt, reimagining Punjab’s own superhero for a world audience.

Indians are no longer watching garbage bollywood movies but rather south indian movies dubbed in various languages as they are much better. If you want to compare Maula Jatt, compare it with the likes of KGF, RRR, Pushpa etc. and you'll see exactly where you stand. Comparing with flop bollywood movies is an exercise in futility.

What a movie! Really one of the best movies I have seen in my life. Pakistan should make more Punjabi movies instead of crabby Urdu movies. Which has no storyline.

Since we are comparing, how’s this for compsrison - TLOMJ the highest grossing Pakistani movie, total gross: $4.4 million. Danglal the highest grossing indian movie total gross: $338 million. The 100th highest grossing Indian movie Rowdie Rathore total gross: $40 million. So the total gross of the 100th highest grossing Indian movie is 9 times the total gross of the highest grossing Pakistani movie.

Indians are done with Bollywood movies that are quasi-meaningful, quasi- apologetic. They want to to see thdd Ed most irreverent spectacle of stupidity. Maula Jatt fits the bill for Diwali 22.
