Angelina Jolie says Brad Pitt ‘choked’ their child and ‘struck another in the face’ during fight
Brangelina were one of the most hyped up couples in Hollywood and it’s safe to say their separation shocked everyone. When netizens came around to accepting the news, it only took a turn from there when Brad Pitt was accused of domestic violence. New details have emerged where Angelina Jolie alleges that the Fight Club actor “choked” their child and “struck another in the face”.
The exes are currently in legal battle over Château Miraval, a French winery they bought together over a decade ago. Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie earlier this year after she sold her half of the winery without his knowledge. The Maleficent actor filed a countersuit against him which, obtained by Variety, revealed more information about an alleged altercation that took place between the former couple and their children on a plane in September 2016.
Jolie’s legal team claimed that discussions with Pitt’s team about selling her side of the company broke down after he demanded she sign “a nondisclosure agreement that would have contractually prohibited her from speaking outside of court about Pitt’s physical and emotional abuse of her and their children.”
According to the countersuit, “Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face” and “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her” during the 2016 altercation. Jolie’s lawyer claimed that the fight started because the Bullet Train actor felt that his then-wife was being “too deferential” to their children.
The fight started in the plane bathroom and “Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall,” the countersuit reads. “Pitt then punched the ceiling of the plane numerous times, prompting Jolie to leave the bathroom.”
The countersuit states that Pitt attempted to get physical with one of their kids after the child came to Jolie’s defence. “When one of the children verbally defended Jolie, Pitt lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him,” the countersuit states. “To get Jolie off his back, Pitt threw himself backwards into the airplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow. The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face. Some of the children pleaded with Pitt to stop. They were all frightened. Many were crying.”
Jolie “arranged for separate transportation at the airport” to bring her and the children to a separate hotel. “She then went to wake Pitt up and told him that she and the children were going to a hotel. Pitt once again screamed at her, and pushed her down yet again.”
The Lara Croft: Tomb Raider actor also anonymously filed a lawsuit in 2016 where she alleged being assaulted by her then-husband on a private plane. She told an FBI agent about he physically abused her and their children and though they didn’t pursue criminal charges, the agent “concluded that the government had probable cause to charge Pitt with a federal crime for his conduct that day”, read the countersuit.
The former couple divorced in 2016 after a long relationship of 12 years. The stars are parents to six kids — Maddox, 21, Pax, 18, Zahara, 17, Shiloh, 16, and 14-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Pitt opened up for the first time about his divorce in 2017 and admitted to heavy drinking during their relationship. He also said the divorce became a pivotal point for him to start making better decisions. He went to therapy and quit drinking. Jolie had claimed his drinking and anger issues to be the reason for parting ways.
