The sequel to Crazy Rich Asians, based on the elites of Singapore, is in the pipeline, says actor Henry Golding. He played the character of Nick Young in the film, a history professor in the United States who comes from a wealthy Asian family. After the release of the first film in 2018, it was announced that a sequel would be made very soon, however, Covid caused several delays.

In an exclusive with E! News Golding said, "I always bug [director Jon M. Chu] about it. They’re trying to figure out the writing. I know they’re working on it, but hopefully sooner than later.”

He said that he "can't wait to be back in Singapore" now that Covid restrictions are being lifted in the country where the movie was filmed. Chu, who directed the first instalment is returning for the sequel with screenwriter Peter Chiarelli. However, co-writer Adele Lim won't be returning after she quit over a pay dispute.

In the film, Young is smitten by Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), an Asian raised in America whom he takes to Singapore for his best friend's wedding and to introduce her to his family. The film grossed nearly $240 million at the global office in 2018, according to Indie Wire.

Crazy Rich Asians is based on a 2013 satirical romantic comedy novel of the same name by Kevin Kwan. The upcoming sequels are also going to be based on Kwan’s novels China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems.

In a previous interview with Indie Wire in 2020, Golding had said that the director is at the stage where he is trying to create "a viable" storyline for the next two films. "Sometimes, it’s really difficult to translate the original books onto the big screen, and with the pressure of trying to keep up the same interest we had with the first movie. The bar has already been raised really high,” he said.

Gemma Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong and Chris Pang were the lead cast of the first film and are likely to return for second film. However the official cast and release date hasn't been confirmed yet.

@Constantine Hey Dear, you know what I did hear about it, but I am raised on Akhri Chatan, Naseem Hijazi, home made stuff, did not want to spoil my taste, so passed it. You go to watch that one and then read Iqbal's Tariq Ki dua and then go visit Spain.
