The internet had its heart broken today after one of its favourite celebrity couples, singers Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, announced their break-up after being in a relationship for two years.

The singers made their breakup public today via social media. "Hey guys, we've decide to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as human is stronger than ever," they said in a joint statement. "We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends."

"We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward," the statement concluded.

According to Seventeen Magazine, Cabello and Mendes met almost five years ago in 2014 when Cabello was on a concert tour with her former girl group Fifth Harmony. Mendes helped Cabello transition out of Fifth Harmony and into a solo act with their collaboration song 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' in 2015. They were strongly suspected to be in a relationship in 2019 after the two were spotted together several times.

The 23-year-old Canadian singer and songwriter Mendes is known for hit songs such as 'Lost in Japan' and 'Treat You Better'. Cuban-born American singer Cabello rose to international fame as a solo artist with her song 'Havana' in 2018.
