Mahira Khan is stepping into a new role of an army officer in her newest project and we can't wait for it. Luckily, we don't have to wait too long because she just announced that the telefilm Aik Hai Nigar will be releasing on October 23.
Khan will be playing Lieutenant General Nigar Johar, Pakistan's first female three-star lieutenant general, in the film and is also co-producing it with Nina Kashif under their production label Soul Fry films.
The telefilm will air at 8pm on October 23 on ARY Digital. Aik Hai Nigar is a project of the ISPR, which already has successful films Waar and Ek Thi Marium and drama Ehd-e-Wafa to its credit. The military's public relations wing is also working on another drama serial called Sinf-e-Ahan with a star-studded cast of Humayun Saeed, Syra Yousuf, Kubra Khan, Yumna Zaidi, Sajal Aly, Ramsha Khan, Sheheryar Munawar, Ali Rehman Khan, Usman Mukhtar, Asim Azhar and Asad Siddiqui.
The telefilm has been penned by Umera Ahmed and directed by Adnan Sarwar. The cast also includes Bilal Ashraf, Sohail Sameer, Iman Shahid and Khushhal Khan.
Khan had previously announced the project with a teaser. "Honoured to be able to play a woman I admire so much. Pakistan Army’s first female three star general,” she had written in the caption. “Aik Hai Nigar traces the life and career of Lieutenant General Nigar Johar. What a life, what a story… to know her, is to know one of the greatest we have amongst us."
Celebrities have also wished the Superstar actor good luck, praising her hard work and looking forward to her performance.
We recently saw Khan in the drama Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay, where she played Mehreen Mansoor, a woman who learns how to survive in an abusive household after being abandoned by her close ones at a young age. She garnered a separate fan base for her exceptional performance in the show.
That's why fans have high expectations for her performance in Aik Hai Nigar. They've been posting about it and wishing her luck on social media.
Who is General Nigar Johar?
Lieutenant General Johar made history in June 2020 when she became the first and only woman in the history of the Pakistan Army to reach the rank of lieutenant-general.
