Department store Debenhams to shut its doors in Pakistan after nine years

The brand has shut down its stores across the globe as it winds up operations.

Department store Debenhams has announced on its social media that it will be closing its doors in Pakistan after nine years.

Debenhams is located in Dolmen Mall Clifton, in Karachi and was opened in 2012. The store will close on September 5.

The Debenhams brand has shut down its stores across the globe as it announced in December that it would be closing the business.

The brand will continue to be available online on the Boohoo website. It was bought by the fashion retailer for £55 million in January.

It is unclear why the shop in Karachi remained open for so long when the final Debenhams outlets in the UK closed in May. Images has reached out to Debenhams for a comment.

Sign of the times. Go online. No mask required, no crowd to push through, no parking to search for, no heavy lifting and no walkng from floor to floor - but have your shopping delivered to your door - conveniently and safely!

A store with such rich history in the West deserves western government or a historic society assistance to at least keep some of the flagship stores fictional. Sometimes history of good old days fades away forever which defines country's evolution, culture and progression by disappearing iconic businesses and the associated monumental buildings.

Don't care, it's not like I could afford what they're selling anyhow.

@Sultan Ahmad Shafi Perhaps, the Debenhams management did not understand your request and therefore decided to 'wound-up' their operations in Pakistan??

@M. Emad And of course, all B'deshis love shopping in Paris, just as soon as they can find 'sasti Mosli Sawal' so they can save money to buy Dior?

@M Emad Debenhams is not a luxury brand. It's a cheap brand selling Made in Bangladesh clothes for the lower class in UK.

So much fanfare about an outlet getting closed but not a word when the shop first opened it's doors. No wonder Debenhams remained in oblivion, quietly located in some nook and corner of Karachi which no one knew about. Good riddance Debenhams, hopefully better things will follow.
