Pakistan bans Mia Khalifa on TikTok, but she refuses to submit to 'fascism'

"I’ll be re-posting all my TikToks on Twitter from now on for my Pakistani fans who want to circumvent fascism," she said.
24 May, 2021

The PTA has banned and unbanned TikTok twice and is now eyeing a new way to censor content on the social media application — individual bans on accounts. The account for media personality and sports commentator Mia Khalifa has been banned in Pakistan but she isn't making it easy for authorities looking to deprive Pakistanis of her content.

Without any official announcement, the PTA decided to ban her account in the country without any explanation about how or why.

As Pakistanis started noting the absence of her content, they took to Twitter in an uproar. Their cries eventually reached Khalifa's own ears and left her astounded.

Pakistanis were with her. They did not appreciate the decision and lashed out with heavy criticism.

This user questioned what the PTA's job actually was.

For Khalifa though, they were all praises.

Obviously the ban did little to threaten the Lebanese born influencer and was only viewed as a challenge. She even gave us a shoutout for doing so. Then, to her fan's absolute delight, she said, "I’ll be re-posting all my TikToks on Twitter from now on for my Pakistani fans who want to circumvent fascism."

Khalifa has been very vocal about social and human rights issues such as the Indian farmers' crisis and Israeli attacks on Palestinians. She has also engaged the UN, directly calling it out for its complacency and lack of action.

This entire episode may have a happy ending but it does raise questions about the PTA's new powers on TikTok and the fact that it can now ban individual users instead of targeting the entire platform.

Defending a porn star? Seriously? You have to stop that low to take a hit at the government?

Mia left the adult entertainment industry years ago. Banning her makes no sense, considering she's now a human rights activist.

That’s actually a help lent out to her to be more in focus. The ban will ultimately be lifted

Apart from everything, being a student of technology, what i believe is that her "majority" of content was intended to be blocked. But they included everything that has nothing to do with that "majority" content. Some sense needs to prevail when applying an algorithm

The problem is not her it’s the desire for what can be described as objectionable content by the citizens of this country . Guess which country tops the rank when it comes to searching for adult content ?? The ban does not change any thing this is the land of Kasur .

Great news, although most Pakistanis are rather interested in her other videos than tik tok ones. I remember the report of Fox News about Pakistan and the things they had searched for, it was shocking.

Having a opinion matters. Right or wrong is next step. Time and again we exhibit that we are controlling, and not willing to accept different backgrounds, thoughts, perspectives.....this is another example. Whereas, we want whole world to be tolerant, receptive etc towards us....

It is deeply shocking to note the state our society is in and its lack of moral compass....,we are praising, defending ,promoting people who must be ignored and left to mercy of their creator. It is the duty of the Government to protect its citizens from such people and ideology who can undermine, dilute and destroy its moral social well-being. Every responsible parent should also be doing the same. Think think and think deeply where your mind is going and what it is being loaded with!!!

She should remain banned in Pakistan. If we have to follow USA and European laws when it's the content is shown here, they need to follow Pakistani when dealing with Pakistan
