Pop music, acting and now qawwali — is there anything Hadiqa Kiani can't do?
Hadiqa Kiani is no ordinary vocalist — she's one of Pakistan's bonafide pop stars, can sing in foreign languages and now, she's added qawwali skills to her already impressive resume.
The artist's latest track, Jaanay Iss Dil, was released today by SufiScore. The song has been composed by renowned tabla player Ustad Dildar Hussain and features Zohaib Hassan on sarangi and Irfan Kiani on harmonium.
The video, which runs past eight minutes, has been directed by Abdullah Haris and produced by Mian Yousaf Salahuddin.
Hadiqa is a vision in a regal wardrobe by Mohsin Naveed Ranjha Mir and jewellery by Huma Adnan.
Speaking to Images, Hadiqa called qawwali "the purest form of music".
"A few months back, I had the privilege of collaborating with the artist who set the rhythm for Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's performances for nearly three decades, Ustad Dildar Hussain," said the singer.
"The tabla legend composed this beautiful qawwali for me in the ang of a ghazal. It really is one of the great honours of my life to sing this and I am so happy to finally be able to share it with the world."
Salahuddin also shared a BTS video on his Instagram, in which fans can see the song and video coming together.
Speaking in the video, Hadiqa revealed she has been listening to qawwali since childhood, adding "it's a genre I can listen to for hours".
"Working with Ustaad Dildar was exciting and also a challenge — it was a dream come true. There was also anxiety because I was trying out a new genre for the first time but I got so much confidence and support from him; it was really a divine experience for me," shared the star.
"I feel this will be a treat for my fans."
Hadiqa has already had a busy year and we're not even done with January yet! She made her acting debut on Hum TV's Raqeeb Se alongside veteran names such as Nauman Ejaz and Sania Saeed as well as rising stars like Iqra Aziz and Faryal Mehmood.
We got a glimpse of the offscreen fun when Hadiqa posted a behind-the-scenes video from the set, where she can be seen enjoying a duet with Saeed.
"Such a genuine and beautiful soul, it has truly been an honour filming with her and the whole team these past few months," Hadiqa had captioned the video.
The OST of Raqeeb Se was also composed by Hadiqa herself, written by her mother Khawar Kiani and produced by Ustad Baqir Abbas.
We can only wait in anticipation for the next goal this superstar sets her sights on.
