He was acting, says Firdous Jamal about actor Imran Ashraf

Like that's a bad thing? And of course Ashraf decided to respond to Jamal's statements in the nicest way possible.

Looks like Firdous Jamal doesn't just think of Mahira Khan as 'model stuff'. He thinks that of everyone in the current entertainment industry.

In an episode of ARY's Hamare Mehman, the actor gave his opinion on Pakistani actors these days and it was not pretty.

When asked about his thoughts on the best stars, he said, "There is no best performer [in Pakistan]. They are all models, showpieces. They don't know that acting is something else. It's like a dummy at a store which people dress up for display."

When countered with examples of celebrities actually giving a decent performance, with the prime example of Imran Ashraf's performance as Bhola in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, the veteran went on to say, "That role was all pretension, not spontaneous at all... he acted, he didn't behave."

While we're confused why an actor acting is bad, Imran Ashraf himself decided to respond to Jamal's statements in the nicest way possible.

"Firdous Sahib is a very respectable and brilliant actor. If he did the role of Bhola, he would've done it a thousand times better than me. I respect him and his opinion. My humble request to every one, my friends my viewers, I didn't mind his comments at all and I will try to learn more. Please no harsh comments for him. When our elders say something to us at home it's not necessary to take it badly."

While we commend Imran Ashraf for taking the high road and being ever so humble, we do wish that instead of just commenting negatively on the new generation of actors, Firdous Jamal would support them and help them get better with constructive feedback.

Imran Ashraf has enhanced his reputation with such a nice response. Firdous Jamal was a great actor but I am not sure he is such a big man. His behavior recently has been more like an attention seeking individual.

to be honest these old timers are so overrated, back in the days they may be known as good actors but where was the competition? there was only one channel and whoever acted on it claims to be the best actor. new generation of actors are much better considering the number of projects they do and the number of competitors they have. so Mr. Jamal please step aside and let the new generation of actors take your seat.

I have seen that episode and I was thinking what the hell is he saying. Worst comments I have ever heard by a senior for his juniors. No wonder Munawwer Saeed saheb (who was also present on the show) did not add anything to Firdos Jamal's comments.

Living in Chicago for last 40 years and with busy schedule I took special time out to make sure I watch Ranjha Ranjha Kardi...! Only to watch Imran Ashraf's acting! Imran Ashraf is higher than any bollywood or hollywood. Imran Ashraf is outstanding! I place Pakistani TV actors way above any bollywood actors!

Mr. Firdous Jamal is no doubt a senior actor but he shows arrogance when commenting about the young actors and actresses. It is said that every dog has his day. Mr. Jamal's days are over. He should keep his comments to himself and behave like a senior actor like Qavi Saheb and others. It is indeed sad. His own son over acts and he should teach him a thing or two about restrained acting

I agree, I don't see actors, they are just good looking models who are trained by producers to be actors, and they try to act in a way that they cannot justify the character. Its show biz and performers, not actors, acting is something else

I did not agree with Firdous comments on Mahira but he is absolutely right about 'actors' on TV. "There is no best performer [in Pakistan]. They are all models, showpieces. They don't know that acting is something else. It's like a dummy at a store which people dress up for display." Hardly any talent or hard work except that they know people who can get them work. Whole of Pakistan society is based on connections not talent or hardwork.

I think Firdous Jamal is right. His opinion is to be taken as opinion but our generation takes it offensive, uttering criticism on him even though what he said is relevant

Amazing analysis by Mr. Jamal and a very gracious response by Ashraf. Our future is in great hands, I'm sure Jamal sb. would agree, based on Ashraf's respectful attitude. It's all about the willingness to learn. Doesn't matter if you're a quick learner or not, if you don't want to learn, you can't do jack. Ashraf should ask Jamal sb. to recommend certain plays and shows he can watch and learn from. Let's use the Joker as an example since they released a new version and he's also playing a character with a mental disorder like Ashraf. Heath Ledger's acting was so great, it made you uncomfortable whenever he was on screen. As Jamal sb. put it, he wasn't acting, he was behaving like the character. Requires research and a lot of studying. He should at least know the condition he's acting out and the symptoms, behavior, how they view the world, etc. You'd need to study psychology to act it out just as you'd need to study snooker to play Yousuf. Can't simply assume you know it all.

What a beautiful response by a gentleman! Imran Ashraf has proved that he is a sensible, peace loving, wise young man, who doesn’t get disturbed by criticism but eager to learn to progress. Firdous sahab is a wonderful actor but the problem is we are not ready to accept criticism. We praise only those who praise us. We don’t have the courage and ability to learn from the criticism. Imran Ashraf put his best effort and no doubt his performance made that drama a success, but there is always a room for improvement. I don’t agree that old actors didn’t have competition , they did have and Ptv was an institution in itself which was was used to be run by high class directors. Now do we have directors like Ptv? I think only very few and majority of the actors are just models not actors.

well hes right if you compare imran's portrayal to leo portrayal in whats wrong with gilbert grape and sean pen in i am sam those seem way more natural

I think Firdos Jamal sahab needs to learn to respect everyone. Being a senior doesn't mean he can disrespect anyone and everyone. He's entitled to his opinion but I think he needs to act his age.
