The biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, starring Vivek Oberoi, will be released on May 24, announced the film's producer Sandip Ssingh.

May 24 will be the day after the results of the ongoing Indian election are announced and four days after the end of polling. This barely gives us time to promote the film, noted the producer.

"As a responsible citizen, we respect the law of the country. After a lot of discussions and given the curiosity and excitement about the film, we have decided to release the film immediately after the Lok Sabha election results (to be announced on May 23)," the producer said.

"We will now release our film on May 24," he said, adding that since the polling ends on May 19, they will "only have four days to promote the film before its release".

"I hope now nobody will have any problem with the film and we are hoping for a smooth release," he added.

The Election Commission had stopped the release of PM Narendra Modi till the end of the ongoing national election on May 19.

On April 10, a day before the Lok Sabha election began, the election body had said any such film "which has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the election should not be displayed in the electronic media".

The Congress had alleged that the film's release close to the national election violated the model code of conduct, saying it was designed to "manipulate, influence and impress viewers and voters". The party had also pointed out that four BJP office-bearers were among the movie's producers.

The film's producers had challenged the film's ban in the Supreme Court. The top court, however, refused to lift the ban and declined to interfere with the Election Commission's order.

Directed by Omung Kumar, the PM Modi biopic also stars Boman Irani and Zarina Wahab and traces his journey from his teen struggles to becoming the country's premier.
