Model Eman Suleman says she doesn't want to share her LSA nomination with an accused harasser

The model was nominated as 'Best Emerging Talent in Fashion,' but says she'd rather give up the honour
Updated 31 Mar, 2019

Model Eman Suleman has quickly become known for being gutsy, outspoken, and always speaking up about social issues.

She's previously spoken up about sexual harassment in the entertainment industry as well as body image; this time she took to social media to make an announcement: that she is not comfortable sharing a Lux Style Award nomination with someone accused of harassment.

In a short video on Instagram, Eman says: "I was extremely honoured to be nominated for the Lux Style Awards. What I'm going to say next is probably going to result in a lot of eyerolls and vitriol. [But] I do not wish to be part of an accolade that is shared with an alleged harasser. I feel no joy. Maybe give the nomination to someone who feels happy about it. I don't. I am basically done."

In her caption to the post she clarified that she had not sent her portfolio to the LSAs for consideration.

Though she took no names in the video, followers on social media were quick to comment under her video proposing that she is referring to recent harassment allegations within the entertainment industry.

As she predicted, some on social media called her out, but many also commended her for standing up for her beliefs.

Speaking to Images, an LSA representative stated that: "A nominee has the right to withdraw and not attend. The Awards office sets up independent juries and they select nominees based on the work done during the awards calendar year. The listings won't change but Eman has the right to not attend."

Haven't Meesha's charges been dropped and Ali Zafar acquitted of charges? No semblance of evidence was produced and Meesha never appeared in any of the proceedings. Maybe this 'boycott' is just for cheap publicity.

@Uzi DO you work in entertainment industry of pakistan? That lady works there and being a lady she knows better, irrespective of whether you belong to there or not. Or you must be one of those Asian males, who thinks Men are supposed to have an opinion on women. Shame

She has no right to issue such statements when a man is yet to be found guilty. This is just attention-grabbing.

Very brave and principled woman. All praise for her bold and courageous statement.

I disagree with her.hiw can she be a judge to tag someone as a harrasser unless he is proved in court.please use your common sense and let the court decide ifff someone is a harraser and then blame.
Saadiq Mar 31, 2019 03:10pm
Eman has exposed the reality of LSA who don't care whether to award harasser or not.

So Accusation Equals Guilt? What happened to due process?
Naveed Mar 31, 2019 06:32pm
It is sad that we have encouraged the blame culture at such level that you can make a person's life a living hell by a single accusation. We even dont feel the need to prove charges.

Referring to ali zafar? He is accused not found guilty

Bold move!

Eman, great position and courage to stand up for principles. Whether you receive the award or not, the world knows you deserved it. That's what counts. Wish you much success.

If the charges are dropped, then it is really bad for Eman Suleman to boycott, otherwise it is a good and bold decision.

A woman with principles in the land of the pure. Wow. Good on her.

@important I don't think he mentioned any opinions. Just the facts and court's verdict. Facts don't care about your feelings.

Innocent until alleged guilty. Welcome to 2019.

@Uzi if an iota of what she is saying is true, justice must be dispensed. This is a very serious allegation and cannot be given benefit of doubt. No everything is for publicity. It's heartbreaking that the monsters live among us who are untouchable.

2018 and 2019 years belong to brave women of this world. I’m so proud of them. Good job Eman by boycotting this. This one step will set examples in Pakistani drama/film industry. Pakistani women are waking up. Proud of you Eman!!

More power to you!
Abdul Apr 01, 2019 11:18pm
We know Ali Zafar is a harasser and womanizer. We do not need Pak judicial system to prove it. The Anglo judicial system protects the rich, famous and in power. The Kangaroo courts whether in develop or underdeveloped world work the same. Meesha cannot speak because women and even innocent men are not protected. Eman, thanks for taking a right step.

@important Asian men? That's a racist and sexist thing to say. You may disagree with the opinion but your statement qualifies the stupidity we are fighting.
