Anupam Kher-starrer The Accidental Prime Minister has been cleared for release in Pakistan, CBFC Chairman Danyal Gilani has confirmed to Images.

"The Accidental Prime Minister has been cleared by CBFC," Danyal Gillani, Chairman of the Central Board of Film Censors told Images. He added that the film has been approved for screening with minor excisions.

According to Indian Express, the film's producer Jayantilal Gada is elated by the news. “PEN Studios is happy to announce that our one-of-a-kind political film, The Accidental Prime Minister, has got a green signal from our neighbouring country, Pakistan. Pakistani moviegoers will be able to enjoy the film as it is set to release there.

“I always admired Imran Khan as a brave cricketer, and now I respect him as a Prime Minister, too. I’m also thankful to Pakistan’s Censor Board chairman for approving our film,” he reportedly said in a statement.

The film, based on a book of the same name written by Sanjaya Baru, released in India on January 11. It stars Anupam Kher as Dr Manmohan Singh (India’s PM from 2004 to 2014). The film has not received rave reviews in India, where there were protests against the film and a lawsuit threatened against Kher and his co-star Akshaye Khanna for "damaging the image" of PM Singh and his press advisor Sanjaya Baru.

The Accidental Prime Minister will release in Pakistan on Jan 18.

It is worth-seeing movie. Pakistani Awam will be able to see the Congress rule under PM Manmohan Singh and their views on Congress, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will definitely change.

@majid If you consider it a waste of your money, you should not go watch them. Why prevent others from doing so? What is this obsession of Pakistani people with banning things for the entire nation what they consider to be unattractive or unappealing for themselves?

This is a movie in bad taste. Mocking an 86 year old former PM is a crudely made propaganda movie is just not on. I am no admirer of the Congress Party but BJP has lost its sense of decency. A movie praising Modi is going to be released before the election and I hope they are defeated. BJP started well but has lost its way. Where do we go from here is anybody’s guess

Ban all Indian movies until they lift the ban on all Pakistanis movies. Then wait for 5 years before lifting ban as it will put us on equal footing.
