It's essential to believe women who come out with their MeToo stories: Karan Johar

The Indian director says that the burden of proof should not fall on the victim

Karan Johar has finally lent his voice to the MeToo movement.

At the We The Women conclave, the director spoke during a panel discussion on masculinity and said that every woman should be believed when she alleges sexual harassment or misconduct.

"When I read so many of those narratives and stories, they broke my heart. It made me realise we cannot be complicit to this and you have to wake up, smell the coffee and be active about it," said Karan,

"Every woman, who has a voice, has to be respected, applauded for coming out, and it is essential to believe every given voice. You cannot say there’s no proof. That is a lame, masculine thing to say. When a woman comes out, she expresses her heart out, she is right and you believe her," he added.

Ironically this comes at a time when Vinta Nanda has been asked to provide proof of having been raped through a medical examination.

The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director continued, "Internally, we have always had our system in place. We have all the commissions in place. But they have been re-energised and re-activated now. There’s a huge sense of accountability that has set in not only in my company but also us in general."

After months of silence, KJo has finally spoken up on the matter and from what he has to say it seems like he, like his fellow artists Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan, hopes to further the cause of the movement.

What nonsense, believe everyone with whatever she comes out just because she is a woman ?

I may not agree with this blanket acceptance of Meto coming up as late as 20 years. If system is to accept her statement, then who and how it is going to be proved.I don't think there would be any scientific method available to prove this.
