Faisal Vawda defends his presence at Chinese consulate as social media lampoons him

"At least I’m not a coward like many hiding behind keyboards," said the minister of those calling him out
23 Nov, 2018

An attack at the Chinese consulate in Karachi was foiled today by the Sindh Police and the Rangers.

The media quickly noticed that another individual was quick to arrive on the scene... PTI MNA Faisal Vawda.

Before we get talking about the MNA let's congratulate acting SP Suhai Aziz who headed the operation and has been lauded for her efforts to thwart the deadly attack in a timely fashion, with the IG Sindh recommending the SP for a Quaid-E-Azam police medal.

Okay now back to Faisal Vawda.

Shortly after the attack was thwarted, Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda showed up to the site in a bulletproof vest and armed with a gun.

Unfortunately, the Minister's attempt came under heavy criticism on social media.

Twitter also did not shy away from seizing the opportunity to have a little fun with Vawda's... very proactive stance.

Via an unverified account on Twitter, Faisal Vawda responded to the criticism, claiming he was there "from start to finish" and that "As a Pakistani I didn’t shy away, it’s my right to use my licensed weapon for self defence. At least I’m not a coward like many hiding behind keyboards..."

He added, " As Federal Minister it is my domain to assist Federal agencies."

It was unnecessary and was not required. Let the professionals deal with the security situation please. His presence will have only disrupted the operation.

Faisal Vawda is a joke. To be honest he should be behind bars as he is a bank defaulter. The only reason he is roaming freely in Urban Sindh with VIP protocol is that he is backed by more powerful sources. Pathetic selection of PTI members in Urban Sindh will never let them establish in Karachi. The script writers needs to do a better job at selecting candidates.

if he is so brave and wants to serve his country, he should get rid of his bodyguards and security. that will be more appropriate then this stunt.

Faisal Vawda is absolutely right. He is a brave man. This is time our nation should realize that we cannot live by talking goody goody things. Everybody should be practical and do something positive according to his/her abilities and power to improve the the situation .

Faisal Vawda is a new breed of practical politician, his city was under attack. His action was very appropriate as a citizen and son of Karachi, Pakistan. Our Hat off to Faisal, you are the man and real Pakistani. Faisal is not a coward person.

Faisal did what any patriot should have done, he’s a minister, not some citizen who was interfering in the operation, look closely, we are just too used to our politicians being guarded by armed men when something like this happens. I’m awe struck by the cowardly comments, we should be praising his effort. The Minister got in the middle of it all rather than making statements from his well guarded office or home. Shame on us for not recognizing his effort. It was no cheap publicity stunt as some hiding at home have suggested.

@Demagogue It was unnecessary? In a situation like today’s, any one with a licensed weapon, without interfering in the operation and actually helping in the operation is commendable, not criticized. How many here criticizing Faisal actually did anything ? Other than make uninformed comments. Remember, as the situation was unfolding, the media did what they are supposed to do, Faisal did what he was supposed to do, not only as a Minister, but a patriotic citizen.

Did he have a licenced gun? yes. Bulletproof jacket bought with his own money?. Great. Needed to be there, no! That is what the police and rangers are for. Just because on has a licensed gun doesn't mean one should go fight crime!

Mr minister, why don’t you do your own job honestly? This will surely bring much needed relief to the deprived people. There is no water here man, people are suffering, do something about it.

All one can say is that our minister minister water resources, must be influenced by watching too many of those stereotype Hollywood movies, His choice of words retaliating to his critics on his totally unsubstantiated bravado show off, is definitely out of etiquette and distasteful. Realistically speaking his comical action for which he is neither trained nor required to be, has become a source of embarrassment to his party and for all inside as well as outside the country. By defending his impulsive and unreasonable act of show off, he is not doing any favor to his party which is already bogged down with similar incidents elsewhere. Not really good for advocates of Naya Pakistan. We are better off without such naivety in display and that too in an event being closely watched at international forum.

It is illegal by law to do what he did! So, why the fuss? In all honesty, he should be jailed or at least a case must be filled against him. You can't just 'muh utha ke' go anywhere especially in an extremely critical situation as this. He RISKED the lives of other defence personnel because of his own stupidity. Must be made a fine example by punishing him.
