Nazia Hassan's ex-husband is allegedly making a film on the pop star

But her brother Zoheb Hassan plans to sue if that film actually begins production

According to Zoheb Hassan, Nazia Hassan's ex-husband Mirza Ishtiaq Baig is planning to make a film on the Pakistani pop star. However, the Hassan family is opposed to the idea.

He wrote that the family will sue anyone who is part of the project.

In a Facebook post, Hassan said, "The Hassan family has come to know that Nazia's ex-husband is trying to make a film on her life so he can feature himself and further profit from her name and fame."

"Anyone entertaining this individual shall be duly and legally sued by our family as he has no legal right or basis to do so. Furthermore we hold full publishing rights of all our music worldwide and any attempted infringement of our catalog shall be subject to legal cost and consequence."

Nazia Hassan's married life was a tumultuous one. She got married to Baig in 1995, had a son Arez Hassan and divorced him in 2000, reportedly days before she died due to lung cancer.

Was she divorced by husband or she sought divorce. This is an important legal point because if had had initiated the divorce proceedings, then the husband has some rights.

Some people have no scruples and take every opportunity to cash in even in adversity.

Do people have copyrights over family members? If Quaid-e-Azam's family doesn't agree, will we all stop making movies on Jinnah or writing books on him? Is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's family is consulted everytime whenever a documentary is made on him anywhere in the world? Zohaib Hassan must accept that Nazia Hassan was Pakistan's and not Zohab's only. Every Pakistani has right to make a movie about her or write a book. However, if there is any inaccuracy in any movie/book, he can go to courts. It is however an ethical thing that the concerned family is consulted to have their consent, blessings and obviously help when a movie is made but it's not a legal requirement

@M. Saeed Nazia got divorce herself. Her father had written in marriage contract she should have right to divorce. The hassan's only chose this guy for his money and because nazia had cancer. when she was healthy they had refused his marriage proposal

@Zara Whatever the legal matters are I'm sure Zoheb would have consulted his lawyers but his frustration stems from the fact that the movie is being made by Nazia's ex husband who stooped so low to divorce her in the very last days of her sickness and is now wanting to cash her death by collecting the proceeds of this movie. Some people are born so small and I can totally feel where Zoheb is coming from.

Nazia Hassan is an accurate depiction of how a beautiful woman fell for the wrong man. Good to see her brother taking charge.
