CW's 'Arrowverse' has gotten a new character on board.
The TV network is working on adding Batwoman to its annual crossover special of shows like The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. They are also working on a solo series for the character.
Variety reports that Ruby Rose has been brought on board to play Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne's cousin who becomes a part of the Bat family and is trusted by Batman to look after Gotham when he has League business. Kate Kane is the second Batwoman in DC Comics' history, with the first being Kathy Kane, Bruce's aunt and Kate's mother.
CW's Kate Kane, with Ruby Rose, will be DC's first LGBTQ character to make an on-screen debut and not be straight-washed. Previously, characters like X-Men's Mystique (a bisexual character) and Deadpool (a pansexual character) have been portrayed as cis, while many open LGBTQ characters have never even made it to the screen.
Ruby Rose had her big break with Stella from Orange is the New Black. She then went on to play roles in films like Resident Evil, XXX: Return of Xander Cage and Pitch Perfect 3. Should her Batwoman series get picked up, we'll be seeing her in action during the 2019-2020 season.
