Shaniera Akram gets trolled for voting tweet

Shaniera's passionate plea to vote backfired on Twitter
24 Jul, 2018

All Shaniera Akram wanted to do today was to encourage people to vote in Pakistan's general elections tomorrow.

In a series of tweets, she laid out her thoughts on the importance of voting.

One tweet asked her followers to reflect on their roles as citizens...

Instead, they trolled her for a typo... and more:

But Shaniera was unfazed.

Ignoring remarks about the matchfixing charges against her husband Wasim Akram, she had an answer ready for the grammar nazis:

Good on Shaniera for just rolling with it!

We have to show why Pakistanis are infamous, the world over. No class, get rich quick though corruption. Shame on those who forgot she chose to live in a country whose citizens leave it at a drop of a hat.

What’s happening to our people. Why are they getting so irritated on such small things. Why are we so intolerant??? She is an Australian and her first language is English so what if she makes a mistake. She is our guest and we should be very welcoming towards her and that’s what our religion also teaches us to be forgiving and tolerant towards each other

Most westerners have poor English spellings, especially those with little education. Don't blame her for that!

Thank you Mrs Akram for facilitating your husband to vote, and for the words of advise. I wish that all of us in Pakistan are serious about the democratic prosess.

There will be no shortage of mudslinging. All humans of limited capacity do it. Best thing to do is to ignore the petty. Whatever is right is right. To urge the fellow citizens to do something good can never be ignoble. March on regardless. Thank the lucky stars that you could afford to travel for do what you thought important, no Browne point though.
