Rishi Kapoor couldn't recognise his son in the Sanju trailer
We're not the only ones blown away by Ranbir Kapoor's transformation in Sanju.
The young star's father, Rishi Kapoor watched the film's trailer recently and remarked that he thought the actor was Sanjay Dutt himself.
"The way Rajkumar Hirani has presented Ranbir is the biggest thing, the boy has really done well. I am so proud of him. I swear on (wife) Neetu and Ranbir, I did not think it was Ranbir, I thought it was Sanjay Dutt," he said.
In fact, it moved him. "You don’t know how emotionally triggered I am right now to the point where Vinod (Chopra) and Raju (Rajkumar Hirani) have shown me this trailer. The first appearance of Ranbir from jail, I thought it was Sanjay Dutt."
Sanju is a Rajkumar Hirani production which documents the high and lows of Sanjay Dutt's life. Besides Ranbir Kapoor, other actors who also play pivotal roles in the film are Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Sonam Kapoor and Dia Mirza.
Although the film is a biopic, it does include dramatic elements for the big screen. The director said: "I don’t think we have added fiction but sometimes you do need to dramatise something or make a funny scene funnier. We just hear a situation. We don’t know what dialogues were exchanged between people. But the effort has been to make the whole film on facts. There is dramatisation."
Sanju is slated to release June 29.
