ARY Digital's Aisi Hai Tanhai will be the latest TV drama on Pakistani screens that hopes to spark off a different kind of drawing room discussion.
Speaking to Images, leading lady Sonya Hussyn shares: "I play the titular character of Pakeeza, she’s your average Karachi girl but due to some reasons, the world turns against her. I don’t want to give away too much for I want my audience to see for themselves, but every Pakistani girl will find some aspect of Pakeeza in them. The story challenges patriarchy very differently. It’s fresh, subtle and definitely something to watch out for."
The actress wanted to do something "relevant and pertinent" after Nazo and the upcoming ARY drama seemed like the perfect fit.
"When I first read the script of Aisi Hai Tanhai, I instantly knew that this was a project I wanted to be a part of. It unabashedly highlights the cruel face of our society, where people, especially women are not considered human. It openly speaks of a subject that very much exists around us, but we choose to brush it under the carpet. I think it’s high time we speak up against hypocrisy," she explains.
Hussyn adds: "That’s what we plan on tackling, opening up conversations and the need to treat one another as equals. In a way, Pakeeza also speaks of cyberbullying and how times have changed now that social media is the only determinant of success and approval. What does this amount to? Where do we stand, as humans? I just hope that all of which we’ve set out to achieve is able to translate on to the TV screens."
Aisi Hai Tanhai's cast also includes Nadia Khan, who is making her comeback to television after 17 years, Saba Hamid and Sami Khan in titular roles. The drama goes on air on November 8. And judging from the Game of Thrones inspired walk of shame in the teaser, we're excited to see what they've got in store for us!
