Disney and Universal team up for M. Night Shyamalan's next film 'Glass'
It seems like M Night Shyamalan has managed to bring together two industry giants and make them play nice.
Universal Pictures and Disney arm Buena Vista International are joining hands for Glass, the director's latest thriller, production of which kicked off on Monday earlier this week.
Glass is the sequel to Unbreakable, which was released by Touchstone label and starred Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, among others.
That being said, it's also a follow-up to Split, Shyamalan's hit from earlier this year that starred James McAvoy and was released by Universal.
So how did this collaboration come to fruition?
Shyamalan got permission from Disney to insert Willis’ character in Split for a surprise cameo, which proved to be immensely popular, so much so that it fanned an appetite for the sequel to the filmmaker's 2000 hit.
This release will also be an uncommon team-up between studios: Disney’s Buena Vista International will handle international distribution while Universal takes on domestic distribution.
The official synopsis reads: "From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from Split are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.
Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men."
Glass is slated for release in January, 2019.
