Following in the footsteps of folk singers Abrarul Haq and Attaullah Esakhelvi, who both joined the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) before 2013 polls, Ahmad has been planning his entry into power politics for the last couple of years.
On Monday, he submitted papers with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) at its Lahore offices for registration of the party.
Ahmad, who has been active in education sector welfare work for some years, said he had formed the party “for the common man and the poor”.
ECP officials say they are vetting the papers for formal registration of the new party.
