Did you know? A Punjabi policeman wrote 'Kala Chashma', and got paid Rs 11,000 for it

The writer regrets that he was not invited to the music launch of Baar Baar Dekho

Here's an interesting bit of Baar Baar Dekho trivia.

News has it that its runaway hit track 'Kala Chashma' was actually the work of a head constable in the Punjab police. Amrik Singh Shera wrote the lyrics of the song in the '90s, when it was initially released in England. The reworked version made its way into the Katrina/Siddharth-starrer and became the sensation that it is these days.

Amrik recalls in an interview with Hindustan Times, “Two months ago, I got a call from one of my friends that ‘Kala Chashma’ was being played on one of the channels. I do not know how I felt. I was happy but also shocked about everything that was happening.”

Amrik says he was approached by Jalandhar-based Angel Record Company four months ago for the other songs he had written “and I was told that a Mumbai-based company needed my song to be played at the inauguration of cement firm... No one told me that the song will feature in a movie.” Amrik was paid 11,000 rupees for his work.

While Amrik doesn't have any "ill-feelings for anyone”, he regrets that “No one from the film industry called me to Mumbai during the music launch or screening of the film. I just wanted to go there and let everyone know that a person from a small village in Punjab has written the song.”

“Punjabi song writers do not get their due. Being a writer here is not easy,” adds Amrik.

But Amrik did manage to sneak a shout-out to his village in the song: He also mentioned that he has paid tribute to his village in the song. He says, “If you listen to 'Kala Chashma' carefully, in the last stanza I have mentioned my village Talwandi Chaudhrian’s name.”

A grave exploitation of innate talent. AMRIK do not lose heart, you have earned a great name. Here in Pakistan I love your song and acknowledge your dear Talwandi.

This is how film industry works, creator get pennies and the undeserving producers millions. A true example of alienation of workers from profit.

I have seen Amrik Talwandi's name as the lyricist on the CD...so due credit is given to him. Money... that he needs to negotiate it well before signing.
