Nawazuddin Siddiqui saves water, improves lives, acts like all-around champ
Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has introduced a new and improved irrigation system to his childhood village Budhana, and you'll never guess where he found the inspiration for it.
During his trip to Cannes for the annual film festival, the Gangs of Wasseypur actor met with farm owners, who took him to their fields in Nice. There, he discovered their efficient irrigation system, which cuts down water requirements by half. Given the fast dwindling water reserves of his village, he thought to replicate the model in his village. So Siddiqui had a model made and shipped to his village.
According to Times of India, "Almost every kind of crop in France was being irrigated using this cost-effective and water efficient technique called centre pivot irrigation," said Siddiqui. The system simulates natural rainfall, which is the best way for crops to be irrigated. It didn't take long for his village farmers to be convinced.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui hails from a family of farmers and spent 20 years of his lives tending to the fields. In fact, he is known to return to Budhana between shoots to check up on his harvest.
