Having kicked up quite a storm recently, the dust has finally settled around upcoming film Udta Punjab.

Much to producer Anurag Kashyap's liking, the film has finally been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification after a unanimous decision, reported The Indian Express.

"We have cleared Udta Punjab under A (restricted for adult audience) category, after 13 cuts," said CBFC Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani. "The CBFC's job is now over. It is now up to the producer to go to court or tribunal. We will implement the order."

The upcoming flick, which centers around the issue of drug addiction among the youth in Punjab, ran into a heated battle with the Censor Board earlier due to the film's controversial content. It demanded 94 cuts from the film, including removal of the word 'Punjab' from the title, which sparked fury among the filmmakers. Consequently, Kashyap took the matter to Bombay High Court.

The High Court ruled the CBFC as being "overly critical" and asked it to reconsider it's decision. The court has also asked the filmmakers to delete one potentially offensive scene from the film and ease up on the use of expletives.

Udta Punjab stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh. It is slated to release on June 17th.

Update: The court has finally cleared the film with just one cut and asked the CBFC to pass the film with an ‘A’ certificate.
