We need to generate some work for Bollywood actors to come to Pakistan, says Fawad

But he's invited his Bolly bud Siddharth to his homeland, nonetheless
12 May, 2016

What will it take for our Pakistani stars' Bollywood friends to cross the border?

Fawad has the answer. In an interview about the role of cinema in bridging the Pak-India divide, he said that cinema may expose you to positive ideas, but it's travel that breeds real tolerance in people.

"In the world that we live today, news thrives on disaster and catastrophe. We don't see as many good things being reported... I guess people just like to see tragedy and drama. I think films expose you to a lot more, which is good," said Fawad.

He continued, "I believe that the best way to bridge the gap is to travel and expose yourself to the world. The more you see the world; the more you will become tolerant towards different ways of the world."

Since, he does his fair bit of travelling to India, the question arises: when does he think his Bolly friends will reciprocate?

"Oh yes, I've told Sidharth (Malhotra) to come, even Sonam (Kapoor) said that she wanted to visit. Our doors are always open," came the reply.

But he also reasoned why that may not happen until a professional opportunity arose:

"I think there is that curiosity, but somehow because of our lifestyle and fast-paced work, we just don't end up entertaining that curiosity to travel. I've always wanted to see India, my wife was keener, but I landed up here for the first time because of my work."

He went on to say, "When I came to India for the first time, I instantly fell in love with the country, and I felt it was like a home away from home. Well, I think we need to generate some work for Bollywood actors to come over to Pakistan. We will be doing that, Insha Allah."

Bollywood stars are welcome to work in Pakistani movies. It will be nice to see them. Indeed Pakistani movie needs to generate suitable work opportunity for them. The main problem is the perception being made about Pakistan. Its up to people who are representing Pakistan to make it happen. Pakistan has many exotic and beautiful locations which can also prove handy for Bollywood film makers.

India is a land that gave an " Indian touch " to all that came here . Be it food, religion , language. people. Nothing can stay in its original form once you come to India. Indian touch is all that the world needs to become a better place. Fawad surely has an Indian touch in him now.

Mr. Fawad, sorry to inform you that people don't like to see tragedy and bad things, that's your perception of people. About bollywood actors, they may not be interested in working in Pakistani movies since Pakistani film industry is very small compared to India's magnanimous one. Moreover, the way movies are made in India and Pakistan is different, Fawad Khan you have to increase your scope of research on what people like and don't like to watch and then talk. Think and research carefully before speaking.

@divergence - regarding your comment about Indians not working in Pak movies. Neseeruddin Shah and Nandita Das has worked. Industry is small but if these could work then others can too. But you seem to know more about Bollywood likes and dislikes than Fawad who works in Bollywood and Pak industry.

@GA I am aware that pakistani and indians have collaborated in projects that would typically show them as bhai-bhai, one culture, this kind of stuff. It's old stuff, you need to move on and get beyond this stuff, India and Pakistan are hard realities of this world, accept them as they are. Fawad is detached from reality, culture can't replace politics, both should remain true to their own respective fields.

@GA We all can benefit from each others' experiences and views. There is a big difference between Indian and Pakistani cinema, in respect of viewership, most of Indian public belonging to any class may be comfortable with their style of movies containing masala item number songs, however, the viewership of such movies whether made in India or Pakistan on the same formula may not be as welcome in all classes of people, and even if the people watch, the reviews may not be as positive as they would be in India. Indian cinema, in my opinion at least, has either become static in the last 20 years or has deteriorated in quality.

Fawad, a true gentleman and open minded person. As an Indian, I liked every word of what he said above. Let common folks in both countries rise above all the bad news generated in the media about each other's nations- that is the making of a small albeit powerful set of inidividuals. I am sure that person to person, we are more alike than dissimilar.

@Ali Vaqar Awan Bollywood shooting cannot happen in Pakistan in the exotic locations you mention in the prevailing security situation. The insurance costs for the unit would be too high. Yes individual Bollyeood actors may come if there is work and a good example is Naseeruddin Shah.

@divergence there has been more experimentation in Infian cinema in the last 10 years with very different stories being told from different genres. You have period movies like Bajirao Mastsni and Jodha Akbar, socially relevant themes like Aarakshan, Pj, Oh my God, biopics like Neerja, Bhaag milk ha Bhaag, Mary Kom and just a wide range of one offs like Queen, Kahani, Fashion, Black, No one Killed Jessica, Barfi, Dor, Piku, Special 26, Lunchbox, Fan, Zindagi na molehill Fobars, Haider, Band Baaja, Baarat etc. If you chose to watch only masala films, that is your choice The fact that news channel focus on bad news is a reality. Just because you disagree - tha does not change it.

By Indians most Pakistanis think of only Hindi speaking Indians. How about an Oriya speaking or Tamil or Konkani or Malayalam speaking Indian star. Here in the Gulf Pakistanis now know of non Hindi speaking Indians.

@Gp65 It would be an innovative step if Indian actors show willingness to act on small screen, that is television, after all Fawad Khan took a start from tv too, why don't Indians act in Pakistani dramas

@Gp65 News channel are not fiction, news is a fact, and it will be based on a fact. Sorry but I can't understand the point of what you are trying to prove. Drama is a fiction and so is a movie, that's where you can make a difference. Whether I disagree or agree, what relevance do movies made on 18th or 19th century theme or romance have to do with present and future, Fawad is totally wrong in saying people like to see bad things, no sane person in his right mind wants to see pessimistic news. It is what is happening around us and that is called staying up to date, not liking or disliking.

@Gp65 No. in fact I don't watch Indian movies at all for a long time now. However, I do read reviews and watch Indian songs on tv channels, from there I know item songs have become a must-have in most movies. So that is not my choice, masala movie etc.

@divergence Really? I'm an Indian, and I have lot of friends on social media, & otherwise. who enjoy Pakistani dramas, actors! They've got quality, they've got great stories to tell...and slowly, there is going to be collaborations and trust me people want that, like it or not! So please, it's you, who needs to do some research, before commenting here, you could start by watching some of their work, if you haven't already! And to all my Pakistani friends, I apologise to you, on behalf of my fellow Indian, for that comment! :)))))

@Simi Like it or not, people like you are taking the society on a downhill slope, anyway, I am not at all antagonistic towards any comment any Indian might have made, but I have noticed a certain intolerance and defensiveness in the way Indians put forward their argument ( some Indians, not all, I would not be hasty in judging them all in the same category), for people like you Simi, I stand firm that Fawad Khan is wrong in saying that people are sadistic, take pleasure in seeing suffering, perhaps he is speaking from the mindset of Indians, as someone has said, Fawad has got Indianization in him. Anyway, Simi people like you and also Fawad Khan are irrelevant to the overall situations regarding Pakistan and India, and I am right in saying that he must do some research because Pakistan is not just 1 or 2 percent pro Indian elite, there is more to Pakistanis than this Indian culture and actors, remain calm and enjoy your life in India

Fawad and Ali Zafar are Multi-talented artists which India don't have. We have seen whenever Indian singers try to act in the movie it goes to trash. Pakistani actors are going there because they are talented and no matter what Indians says here they can't compete Pakistan in TV dramas.

@divergence This shows how little you know about Indian cinema. Bollywood is only one portion of the cinema made in India. The best of the Indian cinema is made in regional languages like Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Telugu. Some of these industries like Tamil and Telugu have budgets that match those of Bollywood movies. Technically these movies are superior to Bollywood and they innovate a lot as the audiences down south are thinking audiences and the plots have to be compelling enough for them to go out and watch a movie. Also there is far better talent in these industries than in Bollywood.

I don't have anything against Indians working in Pakistan, but it would be great to see Indian actors working in Pakistani dramas, small screen isn't inferior to movies. What I objected to was Fawad saying that people love to see bad things, that's like calling people sadistic, that's not true fawad khan. Some people are realistic and some people like you shy away from reality and like to live in their own cocoon.

@RIZ All of Ali Zafar's movies except Tere bin Laden failed in the box office. I have seen Tere bin Laden which was good and Chashme Badhoor (a remake of older version) which is just average. Ali's singing talent is just average. He reminds me of Kishore Kumar when he was starting out, so there is no saying where Ali will go. I have not seen Fawad Khan in a Bollywood movie, so I cannot comment. But the best of Pakistani talent is barely making a mark, that tells you the intense competition that exists in the industry.

BTW, my wife is from Kerala (I am from Delhi) and i have started appreciating Malayalam movies which are simple, down to earth with some real good acting. Most of South Indian hit movies are made into Bollywood movies. Movies of directors like Priyadarshan have all found their way into Bollywood. South produces more movies than Mumbai and better quality ones. Then, one must not forget Bengal which has its own movie industry. People like Ritwick Ghatak, Satyajit Ray have made their marks internationally.

The likely hood of that happening in the near future is very remote indeed. These two countries fell apart on the day Pakistan was created and the gap keep on widening continuously . Pakistan is a product of religious manipulation , there is little chance of compromise on that. So best thing is stay on u r side of the border and us on ours, problem solved.

Good Comments from a amature man. But I must add that you will find many good indian actors going to their neighboring country to share their expertise without any want for money if they are treated with respect. Because for them good relationship between the two countries is more important then hardcore money based professionalism
