After Shafqat Amanat Ali's unfortunate goof-up during Pakistan's national anthem on Saturday's dramatic Pak vs Ind World T20 clash, the singer took to Twitter to express his disappointment over fans' displeasure at his lacklustre performance.

Shafqat denied forgetting the lyrics to the national anthem, saying: "I admit there were a few audio and technical glitches that may have sounded like lyrical errors... But I assure you that I had by no means 'forgotten' our beloved Qaumi Tarana."

"I see that many of you... believe I owe you an apology," he said, adding he was "deeply hurt by the little faith that my fellow Pakistanis have in me".

"I will still apologise, though," he continued, and asked Pakistanis to continue believing in the boys in green.

Audiences noticed the slip during the broadcast of the match, however, and some Twitter users commented on it:

Others appreciated Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachan's rendition of the Indian national anthem before the match:

The beginning of the standoff at Eden Garden on Saturday evening was marred by heavy rain. India maintained dominance over Pakistan with a six-wicket win led by Virat Kohli.

On such great occasion, the cricket legend of Pakistan, Imran Khan was supposed to render the national anthem of Pakistan at the Eden Ground of Kolkata.

Why is he hurt, he should appreciate the fact that Pakistanis still have the national anthem in their heart, and they just pointed to the mistakes or glitches the singer did. He should have been hurt if no one noted the glaring mistakes in the national anthem sung by him...
