After Shafqat Amanat Ali's unfortunate goof-up during Pakistan's national anthem on Saturday's dramatic Pak vs Ind World T20 clash, the singer took to Twitter to express his disappointment over fans' displeasure at his lacklustre performance.

Shafqat denied forgetting the lyrics to the national anthem, saying: "I admit there were a few audio and technical glitches that may have sounded like lyrical errors... But I assure you that I had by no means 'forgotten' our beloved Qaumi Tarana."

Also read: Twitter trolls Shafqat for getting national anthem 'wrong' at Eden Gardens

"I see that many of you... believe I owe you an apology," he said, adding he was "deeply hurt by the little faith that my fellow Pakistanis have in me".

"I will still apologise, though," he continued, and asked Pakistanis to continue believing in the boys in green.

Audiences noticed the slip during the broadcast of the match, however, and some Twitter users commented on it:

Others appreciated Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachan's rendition of the Indian national anthem before the match:

The beginning of the standoff at Eden Garden on Saturday evening was marred by heavy rain. India maintained dominance over Pakistan with a six-wicket win led by Virat Kohli.

Why is he hurt, he should appreciate the fact that Pakistanis still have the national anthem in their heart, and they just pointed to the mistakes or glitches the singer did. He should have been hurt if no one noted the glaring mistakes in the national anthem sung by him...

Amitabh's singing his anthem sounded good cause he was giving a free hand to sing solo without a back ground orchestra. While shafqat's dilemma was that he had to sing to a fixed tune running at the back ground. And to add to it, his mic dint work well initially where he had to adjust the distance to I.prove the voice quality.

Shafqat! Love you man for your voice and talent but I believe there's no reason to feel hurt, you were supposed to be representing your nation on a foreign ground and you did a bad job when compared to Amitabh Bachan who was almost twice your age, so avoid this complaint-cum-apology and stop giving lame excuses. Secondly, does anyone in PCB groom these players to at least learn their national anthem by heart? I cringed at the sight of most players, including our skipper, who were horribly lip-syncing while others were standing like fools. Only three or four players were properly singing the national anthem. Seems like, poor Shafqat wasn't the only one involved in this fiasco.

No wonder the National anthem is written in such difficult Urdu 99% of Pakistanis do not know its full meaning. Its time it can be changed into simple Urdu that can be on the lips of ever child and adult, and do not have to be so long. Invite the new poets of today they can do a wonderful job. The melody can stay the same; words can be simpler and the duration shorter a minute and a half is bearable.

The irony, as we all Pakistani are well acquainted with our national anthem is, our anthem compared with our neighbor, has more vigor and energetic in its tune which awake even the dead. On the other hand Indian anthem is more sleepy and based on low pitched rhythm. But the difference which we felt yesterday was Pakistani singer’s wobbly and shaky voice compared with Big AB courage (Urdu word) voice and he roared like a lion. Our anthem should be sing by someone like Tariq Aziz, Late Aziz Mian Qawaal or Imran Khan himself. This is just another wrong selection like our team of 15 players with 16 officials.

Indians and pakistanis can understand each other well when conversation happens. Even a pushton guy can understand an tamilian if they try to speak in Urdu/Hindi. A Bengali can understand a saraiki fellow if they try Urdu/Hindi. Same way most pakistanis can understand Indian anthem So why it is that pakistani anthem has to be so different than the common basic language. I am not questioning the creation and choice of pakistani anthem, I have full respect for Pakistan's anthem but I feel, in general, that national anthem must be in people's common language i.e. simple urdu. In India "vande maatram" is another equally important anthem that Nobel laureate Rabindranaath Tagore wrote and was available as choice for national anthem but that wud have been difficult for masses.

Secondly our National Anthem was written before independence(before creation of Pakistan) in 1911. There is a line where Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Maratha, Dravid (South India), Odisha and Bengal, were mentioned.. We sing Sindh which is a part of Pakistan now. So it is just appreciating the geography and I love it. We feel happy singing the national anthem, and our teachers used to admonish us when ever we used to miss pronounce any words during our school days. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3zlnn1_pakistani-national-anthem-sung-by-an-american-pakistani-girl-in-a-ceremony_news Shafqat Amant Ali should learn from this girl. Not just singing but also presentation and how to face crowd. How many remember his face when he was singing at Calcutta? and he has arrogance to not even admit his pathetic performance and mistakes.
