Spanish high school drama Elite is returning to our screens for a fifth season on April 8 and the crime thriller promises an exciting journey. All eight episodes of the new season will be available to stream on Netflix. Despite the show attracting fans all over the world, viewers are not very excited about the renewal as season 4 took some beloved characters off the show and fans are still not over it. Calling the show a drag, they think the new characters lack depth and the series should've stopped at season 3.
"No rules. No labels. No control. Elite season 5 is coming 4/8/22," Netflix announced the season 5 premiere date on Instagram.
The series has been renewed for season 6, which is very likely to be released in 2023.
The show follows three working-class teens who enroll in an exclusive private school in Spain. A clash between them and the wealthier students at the school leads to murder. Exploring diverse characters and their intersecting storylines, the show appealed to audiences worldwide when it was released in 2018. It has since released a new season annually.
The cast includes Itzan Escamilla, Omar Ayuso, Claudia Salas, Georgina Amorós, Carla Díaz, Martina Cariddi, Manu Ríos, Pol Granch, Andrés Velencoso, Diego Martín, Valentina Zenere, André Lamoglia, Adam Nourou and Isabel Garrido.
TVLine also shared a statement from series co-creator Carlos Montero, who said, “Elite is a universe I always want to return to. As a creator and as a spectator. It stimulates me, comforts me, encourages me. And the fifth season has been so great, so alive, that I know I’m going to come back to it more than twice and three times. It’s a feast for the senses. You’re going to enjoy it.”
Despite the promise of an exciting new season, netizens were not particularly happy about the extension. Commenting under the Netflix announcement, they said the show should've ended at season 3 instead of eliminating some of the main characters and dragging on with replacements who aren't substantial.
