Aamir Khan's upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha is a desi version of Tom Hank's Forrest Gump

The trailer of Laal Singh Chaddha was released on Sunday at the Indian Premier League (IPL) finale. The first look revealed Laal (Aamir Khan's) journey as a child to an adult living through pivotal moments of Indian history,

The film features Khan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles. Helmed by Advait Chandan, the film is an official adaptation of Tom Hank's 1994 classic Forrest Gump.

In the three-minute long trailer we get to see Khan as Laal Singh Chaddha, a simple man who was raised on a farm by his mother (Mona Singh). Young Laal is seen in the first half of the trailer where it shows that he grew up with a form of disability that required him to have leg braces. Miraculously, as he grows older, Laal is freed from the braces that confined him from the activities he saw his friends enjoy.

As he ran, a younger friend is heard saying Bhaag Laal Bhaag (Run Laal, Run) and the flashback ends with an older version of Laal on a train journey. As Laal grows older, he also joins the Indian Army.

Glimpses of him fighting in a war and receiving a gallantry medal also made it to the trailer. Kapoor plays his best friend Vimmy who is also "the love" of Laal's life. But like the original Forrest Gump, Kapoor's Vimmy also rejects Laal as she doesn't see them going anywhere in the future. Like Gump and Jenny, Laal and Vimmy also go through decades of history.

Towards the end we also see what appears to be Gump's iconic dialogue about a box of chocolates and life. In an Indianised way, Laal is seen comparing golgappe to life.

Laal Singh Chaddha, a comedy-drama, is one of the most anticipated Bollywood films of the year and is set to release on August 11.
