Kate Beckinsale shares a shocking account of Harvey Weinstein's abuse

Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23 years in prison on charges of first-degree and third-degree rape during his trial in New York.

More than 80 women have accused the media mogul of sexual misconduct; one of them was Kate Beckinsale who, after Weinstein's verdict, took to Instagram to share "one of the many experiences" she had with gone through with him.

Beckinsale shared her memory after the Serendipity premiere, revealing no one wanted to go "because holding a premiere mere weeks after 9/11 with the city still smoking felt like the most insensitive, tone deaf,disrespectful idea possible. But Harvey insisted."

According to the actor, Weinstein had invited her and her daughter "for a playdate with his similar aged daughter," but when they showed up, he had the daughters taken to another room and proceeded to yell at Kate and abuse her for not dressing provocatively.

"The shock made me burst into tears," she said.

"I managed to get myself and my child out of there and yes, that was one of many experiences I had that there was no recourse for,and falls under no felony. But I was punished for it, and for other instances where I said no to him for years, insidiously and seeming irreversibly."

She went on to say, "Hearing that he has gone to prison for 23 years is a huge relief to me on behalf of all the women he sexually assaulted or raped, and I hope will be a deterrent to that sort of behavior in this and any other industry."

"I hope and pray that we as an industry can start to actually outlaw all abuses of power and expose them and eliminate them, for all genders, forever."

She ended her note with a "Brava" for Rose McGowan, who was one of the most vocal fighters against Weinstein when the accusations started coming out.

The verdict for Harvey Weinsten was seen as a milestone for the #MeToo movement, which was fueled by his case starting in late 2017. The movement inspired women to accuse hundreds of powerful men - in entertainment, business, news media, politics and other fields - of sexual misconduct.
