Mahira Khan reunites with Shoaib Mansoor for a tribute to all brides-to-be

Shoaib Mansoor has reunited with Mahira Khan for a tribute to women on International Women's Day.

The duo recreated and refreshed Allama Iqbal's iconic poetry for short Dua-e-Reem, showing a time in the pre-Partition era when the words to 'Lab Pe Aati Hai Dua' were changed to a song for a new bride. And they were not pretty.

The video shows professional singers performing the revamped track which glorifies abuse by husbands and is depicted as a prayer for women to stay complicit through the violence.

Problematic lyrics include "I should feel blessed it was just a threat, and not slap - and if it was a slap, I should be grateful it was not a shoe."

Khan, playing the bride-to-be, is enraged by the lyrics along with the notion of blatant submission to her husband and decides to perform her own version with lyrics implying her love for her husband is as a wife, not a slave or a servant. After all, a husband and wife are partners.
