Bajirao Mastani actor Aditya Pancholi booked on rape charge

Indian actor Aditya Pancholi was booked for rape on Thursday after a Bollywood actress filed a complaint against him with the police, reported The Hindu.

The publication states she recorded her statements Thursday afternoon. Years earlier, the actress had alleged that she and Pancholi were in a relationship from 2005-2008 during which he physically abused and exploited her; the abuse spanned from keeping her under house arrest to physical assault.

“We have registered an offence of rape, wrongful restraint, assault and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code,” Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Manjunath Singe said.

The actress had also alleged that Pancholi intoxicated her, raped her and then took photos of her while she was unconscious. After which he used those photos to force her into submission and extorted money from her.

“We have recorded a detailed statement from the victim. As the offence occurred several years ago, we will have to visit the locations named by the victim and get in touch with those she has named,” an officer with the Versova police station said, and added that Mr. Pancholi had not yet been summoned.

“Based on her statement, we have also added sections for causing harm by poisonous substance and extortion to the complaint,” an officer said. “We will decide on the further course of action once preliminary inquiries are over.”

Previously. Pancholi and his wife denied the allegations by the actress and filed defamation cases against her. The actress is scheduled for a court hearing on July 26th.
