Mindy Kaling reveals Marvel is super excited for its first Pakistani American superhero
If you are a die hard Pakistani Marvel fan like us then we have some exciting news for you!
According to Mindy Kaling, Marvel is very ‘interested’ in developing a movie based on Ms Marvel.
In an interview with MTV News, Mindy Kaling said "Ms Marvel aka Kamala Khan is a young Pakistani American girl who is the first Pakistani American superhero in the Marvel Universe. The people I have spoken to at Marvel are so excited about the character and I think they're trying to figure out what to do with it. I think they understand how much excitement there is, Riz, me, every different desi actor was very excited".
In fact, when Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) boss Kevin Feige announced months ago that there were big screen plans for Ms Marvel in the works, Riz had some suggestions for who should work on the script:
When asked who should play the role Ms Marvel, The Office actress hinted that she would choose a relatively unknown female actress to play the heroine.
After her interview, fans started to speculate that Kaling was on board with the film and might play the character herself. Kaling took to Twitter to stop the speculation and wrote "I love Ms. Marvel (aka Kamala Khan) and the geniuses behind her @GWillowWilson @MiniB622 @Marvel, but I have no information about any tv or film adaptation!"
Ms. Marvel was created by editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, writer G. Willow Wilson and artist Adrian Alphona. Khan is Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline her own comic book and made her first appearance in Captain Marvel #14 (August 2013) before going on to star in the solo series Ms. Marvel in February 2014.
Khan is a teenage Pakistani American from Jersey City, New Jersey with shapeshifting abilities and assumes the mantle of Ms. Marvel from her idol, Carol Danvers after Danvers becomes Captain Marvel.
