AR Rahman claps back at trolls, supports his daughter's choice to wear a niqab

AR Rahman has no time for anyone's negativity, neither does his daughter Khatija.

At an event that marked 10 years of AR Rahman's Slumdog Millionaire Oscar win, the singer's daughter was invited on stage to interview her father.

When his daughter stepped on stage wearing a niqab, social media immediately jumped to conclusions, labeling the singer conservative for Khatija's choice of attire.

Paying no heed to trolls or haters, the singer uploaded a photo of the women in his family on Twitter with caption: #FreedomToChoose.

His daughter also took to social media to defend her father. Khatija wrote: "There were certain comments which said that this attire is being forced by my dad and that he has double standards. I would like to say that the attire I wear or the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents."

She added, "The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour. I’m a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that’s what I’ve been doing. Hence, kindly don’t make your own judgement without understanding the exact situation."
