Serena Williams is banned from wearing a catsuit at the French Open and people are not happy

Serena Williams wore a black catsuit as her return to the grand slam finals.

The suit, made by Nike, was no ordinary fashion statement. It was designed to protect against blood clots, a condition the tennis player was diagnosed with after the birth of her daughter.

Apparently, the suit which allowed Serena to return to tennis (and win the first round, just saying) caused a stir, with French Open president calling for a ban on the attire, Independent reports.

Said Bernard Giudicelli, “I believe we have sometimes gone too far. Serena’s outfit this year, for example, would no longer be accepted. You have to respect the game and the place.”

According to Giudicelli, Williams will have to dress more conservatively for future French Opens. Even though she suffers from haematoma.

About the suit, Serena had said, "“I feel like a warrior in it, like a warrior princess kind of queen from Wakanda maybe... I’ve always wanted to be a superhero, and it’s my way of being a superhero."

She added, "I’ve been wearing pants a lot in general when I play so I can keep the blood circulation going. It’s a fun suit, but it’s also functional so I can play without any problems."

The suit has been made with functionality in mind but Serena's ability as a player comes second to her appearance. Its 2018 and we still can't look past a woman's attire, even when it is made exactly for the occasion.

While Serena Williams has yet to respond to the incident, social media is abuzz, calling out the French Open president for racism and sexism.
