Pakistani students love fast food and late dinners, reveals Foodpanda study

It's no surprise that food is every student's first love.

But which cuisines really tingle their taste buds and encourage them to order in? And is there any difference between Pakistani students' online food orders compared to the rest of the world?

Foodpanda analysed students' eating habits from Foodpanda markets around the globe, including eight countries and 17 universities. The results presented some interesting facts about the eating habits of Pakistani students.

Here's what they found:

1. Chinese food is a global favourite but Pakistan loves fast food

Turns out, Chinese food is the number one cuisine globally, with an overwhelming 24% of total orders. However, in Pakistan, particularly, fast food cuisine is the most popular constituting more than 54% of student orders.

2. Pakistani students eat their meals late

Between studying and partying, when are students actually eating?

The answer is: In most countries, hunger strikes strongest between 11am and 12pm (lunch) and 6pm and 8pm (dinner). But students in Pakistan have a preference for ordering late lunch at 2pm and dinner between 8pm and 10pm.

3. Students are increasingly ordering food online

One of the major findings is that there is a growing popularity among students to order food online. Due to the rise (and ease) of food delivery with services like Foodpanda, it's easier for students to order from their favourite restaurants.

4. Pakistani students are all about fast food

Based on universities, University of Karachi has the highest number of fast food fans with 54% of online orders consisting of pizzas and burgers. This trend is followed by 36% Malaysian cuisine fans at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation and 28% Italian food lovers.

5. Pakistani students go big on the weekends

Saturdays and Sundays are unsurprisingly the lazy days and students from Karachi, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taipei all order big as the week comes to an end.

In contrast, students from Manila don’t have time to cook on Mondays and Kuala Lumpur and Dhaka students love to spoil themselves most on Thursdays and Fridays respectively.

6. Pakistani students prefer fast food when stress eating

Exam time, generally considered the most stressful period during a school year, is when students feel the need to relax with a good meal from their favourite restaurants.

While 25% of students globally stress eat their way through Asian/Chinese foods -- especially Singaporeans (23%), Hong Kongers (23%) and Malaysians (16%) -- students from Karachi (56%), Dhaka (55%) and Manila (43%) stay true to their fast food habits.
