Deepika will go gangster in her next project 'Sapna Didi'

After playing a queen in the upcoming Padmavati, Deepika Padukone is going to go gangster in her next project Sapna Didi. The film will go on floors as soon as her schedule clears; reports indicate it could be as early as January 15 next year.

The Vishal Bhardwaj venture will see her in the role of the titular Sapna Didi, an ordinary woman who grew to become a don in the '80s as she sought revenge from notorious gangster Dawood Ibrahim for the murder of her husband.

The film, which is based on based on journalist-turned-author S Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, will also star Irrfan Khan as Deepika's love interest who will support her in her mission.

His character will have shades of grey as reports indicate that he's a local gangster who lusts after Sapna Didi but also faithfully trains her.

Their chemistry will definitely be a departure from what we saw of them in Piku and it's exciting that Deepika is switching it up by attempting a dark role.

Sapna Didi is slated for release on October 2, 2018.
