Sonam Kapoor reacts to Abhay Deol's social media campaign against fairness creams

On Wednesday, Abhay Deol ruffled quite a few feathers in Bollywood when he put out a series of sarcastic posts on Facebook questioning the part Bollywood celebrities play in perpetuating the idea that fair skin is better.

He criticised bigwigs like Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. But one of his "victims" decided to lash back.

Sonam Kapoor, who Deol had also named for endorsing a fairness cream, lashed out at the actor by tweeting a picture of his cousin, Esha Deol in an ad for a skin whitening cream.

In the now deleted Twitter conversation, Sonam, along with the photo of Esha Deol wrote, “@AbhayDeol I appreciate and concur with your views and would like to know your thoughts on this as well."

Deol simply replied: “Is wrong too. For my views read my post."

Kapoor also clarified where she stands on the issue currently.

"I shot this campaign ten years ago and didn’t understand the ramifications. Thank you for bringing this to the forefront ," she shared.

"More power to you @sonamakapoor maybe you can use your power as well to take this further than the forefront," responded Abhay.

However, as Twitteratis know no bounds, followers kept trolling the Neerja actress.

“Did anyone bother reading this tweet or just want to troll... I think it’s important to know the whole picture before jumping to conclusions," tweeted an exasperated Kapoor before she deleted the Twitter exchange.

Abhay also responded to his spat with Sonam, reports India.com: “Honestly I didn’t care what people from the fraternity think because this is not about me or them. I have nothing personal against them. I put up the post because I was tired of celebrities and brands telling me that they are simply propagating a regressive message which has existed in our society for hundreds of years. The frustration comes from the fact that by cashing in on it we’re only perpetuating it further. So, since this is not about Sonam and me, let’s stick to the issue at hand, shall we?”
