Mahira Khan reminisces about family heirlooms, gushing over her mother's 'potlis'

The actor shared a photo of the bags and said she grew up trying on her mother's clothes, waiting to fit into them.

There is nothing more precious than the gifts given by family — the heirlooms that we inherit — and Mahira Khan agrees. The actor posted photos of her mother's potlis [bags] and penned a note about how she'd go through them as a child, waiting for the day the clothes in them would fit — and then getting there, trying them on "again and again and again."

"As a little girl, going through ama’s potlis [mother's bags] was my favourite thing to do. I’d put on all her ghararas, her saris.. couldn’t wait till they’d fit me properly," Khan wrote in the caption.

The Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay actor said she'd make up scenarios of different places she could wear them to. "And God have I worn all of them again and again and again," she added.

The Humsafar star elaborated on her finds. "There is something so precious about heirlooms. To wear the dupatta your mother once wore in her youth.. to put on a sari your nani [maternal grandmother] only kept for special occasions.. or the gharara you got because your phuppo [paternal aunt] says you’re the daughter she didn’t have .. Aaah.. tender mercies."

There are very few people who don't enjoy going through their parents' old clothes and belongings, knowing that there are little pieces of history in every stitch.

One of the most precious heirlooms that parents can leave their children with, is the memory of a pure, peaceful, happy, and musical married life!

All girls love their mothers heritage, but instead of jewels and clothes I wish we would leave bag fills of things such as good morals, excellent values of generosity courage and virtue, pearls of wisdom and skills and knowledge to adorn the coming generation, so we know that true beauty lies within not in clothes and jewel.

Hardest part of inherited items are the photograps. Even though all are valuable but never know what to discard and what to keep. Knowing that they lose, intrinsic value and worth, when passed down the family line.
